Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

internal job applicants

wow, just qot the quickest decline in my life! I have more than 15 years of experience, met each job requirement and somehow I was sent a decline for a application not even 24 hours later. Apparently our HR recruiters are working over-time to just decline qualified internal applicants.

I of course got the " the present time, there are other candidates whose qualifications more closely match the requirements for this position...As you know, at Wells Fargo people are our competitive advantage and team members are a valued resource. We encourage you to continue applying for jobs..." email which is complete nonsense all together.

why don't they just come out and say don't bother applying for internal positions- you won't be considered?
Rhetorical question but I was expecting to at least get an HR screen.

2 years ago I posted internally for a position that would a 1 level promotion. Made it through the first round of panel interviews with the hiring manager . a couple weeks later, while I was on PTO, they reposted the job at a lower level - i.e. lateral to my current position. The new posting was open for 4 calendar days over a weekend. It was closed before I even knew about it. Anyway . . . , the person hired didn't meet the qualifications for the original post so they changed it to accommodate her and now less than 2 years later - she is leaving. So yeah, there is a lot of artificial hoop jumping

Similar predicament, want to get out of the current nightmare and to maybe not so much of one. Declining stating there are people with better qualifications, for which I appreciate however it seems like it is just circling the stage coach. Voluntary dismissal’s should be top of their list then they won’t have to let go of good people that might want to stay there and play the game

HR here is waiting for the next set of MRA with its corrupt practices . My friend , who is ironically new was shunted around for an audit role even though he is the most qualified person by far. I had the same experience for a tech role . They wasted a lot of my time only to get someone from JPM. The ones who got in thru this back door are bringing their friends in. It is crazy corruption .

What was the nonsensical post about "flagging yourself in the system" by submitting an application? That is just a way bit too paranoid — and assumes WF is organized enough to track some metric like this – a metric which reveals nothing about motivation or other factors – and assume WF would actually have a plan to re-act to such metrics. Seriously, WF systems make it near impossible to do simple things like change MAC addresses – so loosen up that Tin Foil Hat and relax a little.

LOL, being internal applicant means you've already got one strike against you. Being a current employee means likely a second-class applicant.

unless you live in the core hub location for the job you will be rejected automatically. This is the part of the location strategy that in full effect.

So for us telecommuters outside the core hubs, we are out of luck when it come to finding another role with another group.

HR is ACTIVELY SCREENING ALL APPLICATIONS. If you are not in the core location, HR will reject your application and the hiring manager will never see it.

Did you fit the geographical locations that were listed in the req? If not, you'll quickly be screened out.

This actually happened to me as well about 2 years ago. I was missing a key word in my application and it was auto rejected. I actually reached out to the hiring manager and he looked at my resume directly and was able to get the hiring manager in HR to resubmit my application. It's not always a conspiracy; sometimes it's just an auto reject without a brain

It was probably because they already had the candidate. They have to legally post everything. I have had the happen numerous times.

@sju+17K7k85j - probably because she created the position for a friend. If you are more qualified and requesting similar compensation, she would have to explain why she chose someone else. If you are a protected class (minority, LGBT+, female, or over 40), it could be a case for discrimination if she didn't hire you.

Usually if a posting is only open for 5 days, they already have someone lined up. Like someone else mentioned, they have to make it available for equal opportunity reasons.

I applied for a tech job in Iowa I was eminently qualified for 20 years experience. The posting manager not HR called me same or next day and aggressively and condescendingly questioned me as if I had no experience at all. After a bit of this i closed out the conversation saying that I'm no longer interested. Which is what she wanted of course. Thought about calling HR but decided that would be a waste of time. But Wells aint the only company that wastes time with this theater as some else called it.

The role was probably created for a specific person in mind. They have to post the job opening for EEOC.

In my opinion, you should always reach out informally to the reporting manager to see if they already have someone in mind before flagging yourself in the system as “looking to move”

I wonder if they put internal applications through the applicant tracking system just like external ones? If so, you may not have matched on enough keywords and the rejection was automatic. Not saying that's cool, or that there couldn't already be a favored candidate in mind... but there are less crummy possibilities

I wouldn't let it keep you from applying to roles you feel qualified for, if you want to stay at WF. Do you know who the hiring manager is? Maybe reach out, it couldn't hurt. It's clear he/she never saw your resume. Even if you don't get hired, you might get some helpful feedback. I got my previous role at WF when the hiring managers "favorite" candidate crashed out later in the process.

It's unfortunate, but once there's deemed "enough" qualified applicants in the pool recruiters often stop considering candidates, without closing the job. Mixture of the rules for how long you must post internally, and not wanting the hassle of reposting the job and starting the clock all over, if something with the favored candidate goes south.

I too have a ton of experience here, I'm coming up on 17 years soon. I feel your pain and can completely empathize with you. It always stings to be declined and to receive that canned "... present time ..." emails.

Keep plugging away. Keep trying. Something will eventually come through.

Use your 15+ years of contacts. Work your network.

You know what to do ... just gotta get motivated to push forward.

All the best

Wells Fargo is all smoke and mirrors. That is the one thing we do well, obscure and mislead.

In most cases that I'm aware of, postings are written for a specific person. If you're not invited to apply, they probably have someone else in mind. At least they got back to you so you know where you stand. Corporate culture. Gotta love it.

Yep, happens all the time. This is an MRA waiting to happen. Fake job posts where the finalist has already been pre-selected. The post and the interview process is a nothing more than recruiting theater. This is a way to by pass diversity requirements and internal processes that limit this kind of selection approach to higher level executive appointments. Welcome to Wells Fargo!
