Why are posters on here thinking that being a VP at this bank means anything? This isn’t the days of I love Lucy when her boss was the one VP at the bank. At Wells they are a dime a dozen I think everyone in SF is a VP even the admins are VP of administration. Until you have an S or an E before your VP your are a regular team member no super powers in that V or P. Get a grip.

Yeah, my boss who is a VP thinks he owns WF or something with the way he puffs his chest in pride. He is also someone who would put VP all over his email and his LinkedIn. We laugh at the the dude behind his back because even if he has that title, he doesn't really know anything about our work aside from brown-nosing his way up for 25 years. I heard he never had any jobs at all outside of WF. Poor guy will have a hard time if he gets laid off (which we doubt with all the a—kissing he does).
@3ijj. Everyone knows fake titles from banking companies means nothing. Snap out of it before you make a fool of yourself. Just like everyone else I have one too and I never ever want to use it. It’s embarrassing that companies give out meaningless titles and think people will oh ah over it. The title in your resume or business card or signature is a cheap trick trying to look impressive while it is meaningless is misleading and mis-advertise
I told you already having a VP title at Wells Fargo looks really good on your resume if you want to, or have to, apply for a job with a different company. It also establishes the concept that Wells Fargo has found your skills eligible for that level of title at the company. I have a VP title and like it for sure! Read the VP title follows you around with different jobs at Wells Fargo and you will always have it, regardless of what different job you are working at within the company.
I’ve had the VP title about 8 years now, was AVP previously. I’ve never had anyone report to me. I’m a risk consultant in WIM.
Years ago ( pre 2016) having an officer title, even an AVP meant you got more severance in a layoff ( i.e. more weeks). Thanks to the golden parachute some former leaders took that got changed. As to VPs and AVPs being a dime a dozen there were also big differences between business lines. A VP in one business line might have thousands of employees and in another might make a third of the pay and be a VP of three. And for some community facing roles it’s not unusual to see SVPs. But their pay isn’t nearly the same as other SVPs. So that’s why you see people asking about it.
The value was once relayed to me this way...its not worth much if you have it, but people begin to wonder why if you don't have it.
@1agg, it absolutely is meaningless. As others have said, many of us in IT received AVP status. It wasn't even discussed by our leadership, just something that showed up in our new role paperwork. To be a corporate officer at WF you used to have to go through a process that involved training and an explanation of responsibilities. Now its just a punch line.

VP title means nothing to external people unless you stay in banking.
I was a manager in another industry, I salary was 35% more than my VP title in another bank. It depends on the industry you work in. I also had a dozen direct reports.
Yes, when passing out a resume to other companies for a job it is way better to be able to add the title of VP to the job title than to not have that designation from Wells Fargo. So that is the main benefit of the VP title I guess. That would not really be in my realm of consideration if Wells Fargo was not in the process of laying off so many internal employees at the present time.
I received the title of Vice President at Wells Fargo when I was hired at the company as an internal employee around 8 years ago now. I am very proud to have the title of VP at Wells Fargo, yet I do not include that title in my email signature as I do not believe it makes me any better than my fellow team members who may not have been designated with the VP title. It is good to put on my resume anyway. I have tried to "live up to" the VP title at Wells Fargo. Doing the best work that I am capable of doing and always assisting my co-workers to acquire the same technical and business skills that I have, if they ask for such assistance. When I worked at Bank of America I did have the title of AVP.
A few years back my manager asked if i wanted the VP title (i was AVP at the time). I asked if i got more pay or responsibility or anything with it. He said no, just different initials. I told him if he had to fill out a bunch of paperwork and spend any amount of time on it then no, don’t worry about it - so he didn’t. Now with the tech job title changes, it came automatically.

Have you ever noticed the people who disparage those who have been granted an AVP or VP title are the same ones who complain they can't get a promotion or get hired for a higher level job? Maybe they should put more effort into figuring out why they are never the candidate chosen for the promotion or the new role than displaying their petty jealousy.

A few weeks ago Wells Fargo liked a post on LinkedIn by the head of technology for India. He was saying what an honor it was for those who received VP/AVP titles. I looked through the likes, and most of them changed their official 'role' at Wells Fargo to AVP or VP. F-in hilarious. Those titles are like candy at halloween. Everybody gets them eventually if you stay out there.

A few months ago as part of the renaming of IT jobs a ton of us got the AVP title.
None of us put it in our email sig because we know it's meaningless.
Banks give out VP titles instead of salary.
Some areas like consumer lending make everyone who made it to an ORC 4 an automatic VP. Like everything else at WF, there's no oversight or thought put into it and it's overinflated like all the levels of useless senior managers, and directors they have with less than 7 directs.
Uh, this is true for all of banking and most of finance. insurance different. but has been like this for more than a decade or two....
