Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Transparency and a little empathy go a long way

I don’t think the issue here is that people don’t understand the company has to make changes. I think it is more that we feel like the company is doing things without being transparent such as 1) changing us from team members to employees (anyone else feel like that is to make sure you know your place?) 2)rating mid year reviews and then forcing managers to put in rating for end of year reviews two months later 3) forcing managers to do calibrations so that only so many employees can get higher performance review ratings 4) sending out monthly surveys that seem like they are out of concern for the employee but ask at the end whether you are planning on leaving or not (attrition) 5) allowing a CEO to work out of and hire in one of the most expensive cities in the country but talk to the employees about hubs and cost 6) having a CEO grin like a Cheshire Cat through a town hall while talking about attrition and layoffs. Everyone knows he isn’t here to care about the employees, only the bottom line, but he could at least fake it till he makes it. If you are going to talk transparency then put your money where your mouth is.

Wish I could upvote 1000 times. The fact those are that have been laid off aren't being given explicit reasons for selection is frustrating as well.

Well said. It's not WHAT he's doing, it's HOW he's doing it.

We're intelligent, hard-working, loyal employees. Treat us with the respect we deserve.

Clearly, he hasn't read (or is disregarding) profiles of true leaders. There are many CEOs who make tough decisions and still manage to be appreciated and lauded by employees.

Look at Delta Airlines CEO, for example. THAT is true leader. Scharf is a poser making $36 million, with no regard for employees, yet I'm sure he's sleeping well at night.

There's a psych term for what he is. The term applies to many leaders – especially in finance (a la Gordon Gecko).

You forgot his sign on package which includes personal security and a private chauffeur.
