Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Do managers really know nothing?

Hard to believe that immediate managers have no say on who is displaced. I read when we first got wind of the displacements that the decisions were made entirely by consultants/HR. Does anyone know the true explanation? Are managers really being notified the day before a displacement?

My manger knew. He told us a couple of weeks before about letting go of contractors instead. We had to give feedback on all contractors.

I’m a manager. I know my department is going to have changes 11/17. That’s it. No idea if I will be affected, if my people will be affected, if my boss or peers will be affected... they’re keeping it 2 levels up for now.

I'm a manager and don't know anything. That may change as 11/17 approaches though.

@1tjz
How much ahead of time do they tell you who's on the list?

It depends on what dept you are in. Manager here and know exactly who is getting displaced in my area.

This reflects what i learned from managers above me. They do not pick who stays and who is let go....So i imagine we are all numbers and they will cut those with the largest check first....regardless of performance....What point is there to work hard at this point?

Manager here. Yes, we are almost entirely unaware. We get a spreadsheet from HR. There may be awareness and input a few levels up from us about who and when, but direct managers of individual contributors, I can tell you from personal experience, get a spreadsheet and talking points the day before. If it's a LARGE displacement, we also have a manager session with HR to go over how to speak to specific questions and concerns, things to make sure we understand how the displacement process works, so we can explain and answer questions for the affected, etc.

If they told us much before that, SOMEONE would start talking, and the rumor mill would go crazy. We don't know. I spent this week on pins and needles like everyone else, not just for myself, but for my team as well.
