Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

The Townhall Speech I want to hear

“As part of our overall path to profitability, we are reorganizing into a lean and focused company. We are combining teams, reducing layers, eliminating non-core businesses and strengthening the focus on profitable growth. Sadly, we will also be saying painful goodbyes to some of our colleagues in this process.

Daunting as it may appear in the moment, it is important that we do this now, so that we can continue on our overall mission of building a successful, profitable business that provides incredible opportunities to our employees, customers, communities and shareholders. This also means more responsibility for the team members continuing on this journey with us. I believe that every resource of the company should be deployed for driving us towards profitable growth and with this announcement; I am taking a 100 percent salary cut. Many of our leaders have also stepped up proactively and offered to take a significant cut in their compensation, which is an excellent sign of how galvanized the team feels in this shared quest for profitability.

Our other top priority is getting the asset cap removed. The plan to do so is....

There are exciting times ahead for this bank. My vision for the future of Wells Fargo is...

Thank you for your hard work during this difficult time. My promise to you is that we will go through this process in the most thoughtful and transparent way possible. We will offer severance to all employees impacted by these changes, as well as job transition help in many locations, and everyone can expect to be treated with the respect they deserve for their contributions to this company.

I will stick around for as long as it takes to answer all your questions.”

Well, apart from the 300 "uhs" and "ums", and just about every word in here, it was pretty close!

I look forward to hearing how Charlie’s meeting compares.

I wish we had Judge Judy on the call to make him answer some of the difficult questions he will surely dance around. “...If it doesn’t make sense, it’s not true.” “...I eat mo–ns like you for breakfast.“

Im just going to make a slight adjustment to this...

"I believe that every resource of the company should be deployed for driving us towards profitable growth and with this announcement; I would take a 100 percent salary cut, but that mansion and luxury sports car are not going to pay for themselves..."

I'm stepping down, effective immediately. I was part of the wave of lay-offs on 10/27.

You make a good rhetorical point about the CEO comp during times of massive layoffs.

Not from a legal perspective, but from a more holistic, real-world perspective, how does a company/BOD continue paying $36M to one person? Both in business and culture/political terms, does that make good business sense right now? In a culture of expense reduction, is there really no one else that can be CEO for say $18M? I think there is. Especially given the one-dimensional task of cutting.

If you still work for WF and ever feel bad about only doing the bare minimum everyday, remind yourself about our CEO's salary during these times of expense reduction. $36 million/yr.

How much do you make again, while simultaneously worrying about whether you'll have a job tomorrow?
