I'm assuming this whole prolonged layoffs process means we'll have layoffs every month until the coveted number is achieved. But a month from now is the week right after Thanksgiving. What are the chances we'll have layoffs that close to a holiday? I haven't been here long enough to know how something like that is handled.

A lot of manufacturing and textile jobs went away in the 80s. Whole towns died because the plants closed. Folks on both sides of the aisle let it happen. Facts are interesting things.
Back to the original subject, if they think it will make their numbers look better, they will cut you loose at any time they wish.

That's just corporate, not WF. I got my notice from one company in 2006 in the first week of November - 6 days after moving into a new house and two days after my son was born. I was on PTO for paternity, so I got a phone call. The person making the call has little say in it. As a manager of people, I've been on both sides of that conversation, and it s—s on that both sides.
Historically there has been a layoff/displacement freeze from about mid-November to early January. However, that freeze is at leadership's discretion, and there's no way of knowing whether that freeze is going to be in place this year (unless you're in HR and know). The displacement/payoff schedule is not published for general employee viewing.
Wells will layoff until the week before Thanksgiving and resume until mid December and start again in late January. This is only because the execs want to enjoy their holidays otherwise they layoff randomly its for selfish reasons.

I was laid off two days before Turkey Day at another big company. Perfect timing, My package was 4 months of continuous pay and benefits. I'll assume that they do the same thing here.
There’s a wave scheduled for December 3rd.
Typically there is a holiday moratorium from late November till post New Year for FTE reductions. There are always exceptions

WF is not alone in getting rid of contractors at the end of the year. That happens everywhere.
They did in ‘17 and ‘18 but to the best of my memory it was contractors not getting renewed and/or having the contracts terminated early. Not to say there weren’t any FTE’s in there or they would stream a few out here this year based on the current climate.

I would LOVE to be laid off. If there was a safe way to volunteer as tribute I would. A severance package would put me in a much better financial position, and in my area getting a job is not really an issue.
Heck! It'd be nice to have a minimum of 16 weeks off between November and March.

Yes, they do lay people off just prior to the holidays. I was severed right after Thanksgiving holidays on 11/30. This gave Wells the 30 days of December necessary before I was then defined as an “inactive Team Member” while I collected 16 months severance due to 36 years of service. This occurred four years ago.
11/17 is the next date. Mostly middle managers will be impacted.
It doesn’t matter if it’s the holidays or not. I got my 60 day notice twice, 8 years apart the week of Halloween. As one post said, it made for interesting conversations at Thanksgiving. However we as a family learned to prioritize experiences over stuff. Only the kids got actual gifts for Christmas and we made the holidays into a destination experience like a road trip to a new city, rather than putting value on stuff that will lose interest after a week.

Remember, companies are loyal to shareholders and themselves, not you. As such be loyal to yourself and your family and not corporations.

I think all bets are off this year. Having the majority of us working from home since March has probably maxed out Wells Fargo’s “Charitable” threshold for 2020. I’d like to think there will be a holiday moratorium, but I wouldn’t be surprised if pink slips continue to fly through December 31st.
They did the past 2 years, don't see it changing now.
