Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Pulse Survey Invitation

Did anyone get an e-mail from HR with the title “September pulse survey invitation”? I did. It’s a survey asking you to rate certain things about WF. One of the questions directly asks if you are planning on leaving the company. At the end, you are asked to write a comment about your experience with the company (good or bad). Since it’s likely they can trace which e-mails are responding, how honest can you really be based upon this current environment?

Be at least as honest as our leader is. He deserves this from all of us.

The above post by the org transformation employee is blatantly false. The Items in the Pulse survey are not determined by senior leadership and are standard items measuring the intended culture. Intent to stay is a standard measure in the industry and is one of several to attempt to measure satisfaction. The survey is confidential but not anonymous and there are several disclaimers within the email invite and survey itself to acknowledge that comments that have serious allegations will be investigated, if they weren’t how can things possibly improve. I hope retaliation does not occur as a result as it’s not the intent. If you say you plan to leave or not has no bearing on layoffs as individual responses are not shared. The only way senior leadership sees intent to stay measures is aggregated to overall, each line of business, and those directs so deepest is level 3 of the org. We should always share our honest opinions on the company or nothing will change, it still might not but we are trying and need your help.

It is actually very common in a workplace survey to ask if you are planning to leave the company. It has been on most, if not all, of our past Voice of the Team surveys.

I have filled it out twice in the past, and was very brutally honest, and still here.

What a dirty trick do put out surveys without thoroughly disclosing that they are not anonymous. It doesn’t surprise me though. This company will do anything to find more investigations on honest employees then discipline them for breaking some obscure unknown rule where there is no risk.

I find it astonishing that management was hoping for attrition as a cost reduction strategy.

In a pandemic?

What has actually happened is that large swaths of people have become insufferable making everyone else unproductive. I see this every single day.

I also got this suvey over the summer and answered honestly. It is only going to 30k people on a monthly basis so it's different than the annual Team Member Experience Survey. Not sure we will get that one this year. Do they really want to hear about our "experience" this year?!

@1msz+175lfzyr I think it's funny that the BOD or management didn't realize they telegraphed that exact intent with the survey. They must think the vast majority of employees are complete id–ts if they expected that survey to not telegraph that they were looking for natural attrition.

I put on that survey that this is the first time in a decade that I may start investigating outside options. Investigating options doesn't mean I'm necessarily going to find many. I know most of my coworkers also voiced their displeasure and potential desire to investigate outside options.

Expecting that to translate into action at a high level of correlation shows a massive lack of savvy in senior leadership. Thank you for confirming that management is just as clueless as we all think they are.

@1msz I’m the OP and want to thank you for the info regarding the survey. Many of us want to quit but can’t because we need our jobs. It saves people from answering that question “honestly”. It felt like a set-up from the start. Never in all my years in this business (I’m at WFA PCG) have I ever been asked in a survey if I was planning on leaving my current employer. It makes me question how random this really is or is it targeted in some way.

I got one of those surveys over the summer and was brutally honest - I didn't paint pretty picture of WF, just told the truth about my experience up until then, which was pretty horrible. Anyway - as someone just mentioned, these surveys are NOT anonymous!!!!

I had and Employee Relations rep put a meeting on my calendar to talk about my responses a few weeks ago. I was shocked at first, but knowing WF's shady tactics, it didn't surprise me. I met with ER rep and they told me a few of my free-form answers "concerned" them. They wanted to understand more about the instances of racism, misogyny and homophobia I wrote about on the survey. I first told them that they should think about putting a disclosure on future surveys indicating responses are not anonymous. The ER rep asked for examples (and names of those who were directly impacted) of exactly what I witnessed - I thought their head was going to explode. I told the ER rep I feared retaliation and wouldn't be surprised if this was used against me somehow. It is what it is. In hindsight, I probably should not have waited for a survey to report what was going on, but again - the whole "retaliation" thing played a factor.

So basically, if you take one of these surveys just know you could get a call from HR asking for more specifics. If you actually want someone to call you to talk about things you many have witnessed, then by all means, have at it.

Is this the one that came on Tuesday and said something about it only being distributed to 30,000 employees chosen at random? I just deleted the email so I'm not sure what the survey was about.

I'm on (shamefully) org transformation team, which many employees don't even know about.

This survey was designed to find out the odds of natural attrition – nothing more. Execs are beside themselves that more people haven't resigned already – ALL organic attrition forecasts were wrong by huge margins and it's cost leadership dearly. BOD is very disappointed cost-cutting imeasures are too little, too late.

All the other questions on the survey are window dressing. Sr. Leadership doesn't care. The only question that matters (purpose of survey) is the one about considering leaving.

There are questions at the beginning of survey that make it clear it's not anonymous, plu

you are taking the survey from a WF-approved device.

This isn't the old days where actions might be taken to improve things (or bury everyone w/remediation minutiae in the process of trying). This is a pulse check on who they'll withhold the defibrillator paddles from.

Make no mistake about the true agenda.

we can fill out surveys a million times with the most candid and blunt responses. it will never change. they fired middle mgmt after 2016 and it seemed for a short time the sr level could actually see/understand the granular process and made some changes then suddenly they started beefing up the mid layers again and we r back. reorgs over and over just passing processes from one grp to another and then charlie brings in all his friendsies? so far, they created a “placemat” like it was a new idea. please! we had those years ago. we just go in circles. people raise their hand and we slap bandaids on stuff. then they shuffle teams and we have remediations. omg remediations!! do we ever get a chance to be proactive? no bc all our time is on remediations. its just crazy. the surveys are traceable but they can only do a follow up interview and not allowed to retaliate. be candid but its pointless.

I wish I got a survey. The is no way to protect yourself in retail banking from overzealous investigators who falsely accuse and punish the innocent. Now sales pressure is coming back too. Thumbs up Wells Fargo.

Things will never improve if team members aren't honest. There are real concerns about this
organization and someone needs to pay attention. It was a relief to voice my opinion.

Can you get this survey if you've been with the horrid bank for less than a year? I'm hoping so, bit only if my answers are traceable back to me. God I hope I get this survey.

@tha+175lfzyr why do you think 'lifers' are overpaid? If they have spent 20 years evolving and moving up with promotions, applying for and getting new roles with salary increases, why do you begrudge people for that? I would say deadwood who has been in the same entry level role after three years should be the first to go. Replace them with people who have some ambition.

@tqt+175lfzyr I got one of those a few months back (maybe last year?) and I, as usual, was as brutally honest as I could be. I want it to be personally identifiable. I want them to understand I am very unhappy about the way this organization has gone to garbage and I'm being made to suffer over someone else's, and some other department's, misdeeds.

I would love for them to come and interview me about what's wrong with this place. I'm not one to hold back my opinions and call it as I see it.

I've always been that way on the annual voice of the team survey and would love the chance to point out to them that prior management always chose questions that were targetted to reinforce what they were doing rather than take an objective look at what was going on.

This survey was more of the same. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

Seems like indicating you are planning to leave would exclude you from being laid off because you're going to leave anyway, so why pay you severance too?

Regardless of how you answer the question though, the overpaid lifers will still be #1 on the chopping block.

I got it and was honest. I did say I was considering leaving and left a common sense comment with my real opinions on certain things that are going on and how the employee experience can be improved; as well as why I have considered looking elsewhere. If you say “no” they will use this as an employee pulse sentiment that things are fine. Clearly they are not. Not sure why anyone is concerned with their survey being traced back to them. I would back up any of my responses in person with logic and respect. No concerns here.

That survey comes out every year, or used to, I don't recall seeing one lately and some of us assumed they knew things were bad and didn't want it on paper.

Maybe they just do certain teams now?

I used to give all high marks years ago, I would have different answers now.

I got it too. Answered yes to that last question, and on the “(tend to)disagree” side for almost every question. We’ll see if they dump me, at this point it would be like cutting the chains.
