Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

“Very limited pool of black talent to recruit”

Source: NBC News:
Wells Fargo & Co Chief Executive Charles Scharf exasperated some Black employees in a Zoom meeting this summer when he reiterated that the bank had trouble reaching diversity goals because there was not enough qualified minority talent, two participants told Reuters.

He also made the assertion in a company-wide memo June 18 that announced diversity initiatives as nationwide protests broke out following the death of George Floyd, an unarmed African-American man, in police custody.

"While it might sound like an excuse, the unfortunate reality is that there is a from," Scharf said in the memo, seen by Reuters.

For someone making 30+ million a year, he gets zero excuses. He should be fired for this . Any of us regular team members (ahhh ... Employees) would be on the chopping block if we posted that same statement to social media. Much much more should be expected from someone making that much money.

Does anybody else find it suspicious that Charlie’s comments about finding diverse talent that he made months ago hit the national news yesterday when yesterday, the bank announced layoffs for hundreds of employees? The old BBG group is now practically gone. This feels like a planned smoke screen to divert attention away from the job cuts.

Does diversity mean blacks only. Hispanics . Asians. Indians don’t count it seems.

The apology was worse than the comment. To have "unconscious bias" is to be a closet racist. My friends used to say they didn't have a problem with the kbecause they knew what they were dealing with. Its the fake people in the world that bothered them the most. The new unconscious bias is a new 2020 term that is basically saying, you're racist, you just don't know it. Well the mo–n just admitted, using the new fancy term that he makes racist decisions based on racist ignorance. Time to resign Chuck, you can't teach what you're guilty of mo–n

@gsm: since you have come out here on multiple threads, insisting Charlie’s comments only to be speaking contextually to the asset cap: post his full comments to prove your case.

@jac: I would agree with you under many circumstances. Racism/ageism/s-xism etc is not to blame in every instance. And yes-people do have to be accountable for themselves.

But having said that, people on this board are reacting to blatant racist comments and actions by our CEO. I would think something isn’t right if people don’t stand up against that. I would bet that half of the people out here standing up against Charlie’s comments are white. Right is right and wrong is wrong.

In this context, your comments are not fair.

I’m just sick of racist anything. Everything can not be about race. Everything in life that’s bad for you isn’t racism. I’m Native American ( the real kind from a reservation) I take responsibility for myself and my actions. All the other arguments are just bs. Everyone needs to calm the F down.

His excuse mentioned he implied or as if he didn't mean it to come out that way. No sir. This was an obvious statement and not bias not implied. Now another half a dozen classes to take. They are making a class on how to not be a racist. What a waste of time if they believe 45 minutes will teach employees to stop being racist.

No fan of the man but he was contextually speaking of the asset cap. He even admitted that Wall Street banks were behind in hiring, training and promoting diverse talent.
Truth is no longer allowed in our society. Feelings and emotion reign supreme. Too many would rather be pandered to and be told untrue platitudes than operate in reality.
Grow some grapes.

Dear Klanspeople, and you know who you are.

Please stop posting klan-sy stuff here.

You are the reason we have to take diversity trainging, or as I call it, "How to be a Decent Human Being".

And because of some of your beliefs about others not like you, posting here where the world can see it, makes us all look bad.

Half the klan-ish posts are done by trolls to stir up trouble. Grow up.

What an id–tic statement to make. I hope every African American I have worked with in IT will apply and self-identify their race on their application. DOL can do a nice audit to track how many black Americans WF considers "talented" enough to join the company. Maybe that was a good invitation to check their hiring records for demographic statistics in general...

I can't believe he blamed this on his 'unconscious bias'. We use to have a diversity program based on inclusiveness on everyone. I'm afraid we are heading toward being taught critical race theory.
