Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Funeral Flowers

We had a situation today where we were told not to spend money on funeral flowers. This stuff is serious.

Our manager(s) have been paying for these types of events out of their own pocket for the past 1 to 2 years. Decade anniversaries, retirement parties etc.
Some will say “They can afford it.” But our lower level managers aren’t swimming in the money.

I appreciate that they are trying to keep some humanity in the office, whereas upper leadership seems to be going out of their way to take it away.

Some people out here like to get on their soapbox and say “It’s just a job babble babble babble... “
I will work much harder for a manager/company who gets personal with their employees, stands up for their employees, motivates, communicates, identifies talents, shows appreciation, makes time etc

Treat people like a #, which is the message coming down from leadership, and the natural reaction will be employees doing less work, less quality of work, less drive and interest etc. Wells Fargo is shooting themselves in the foot in every way imaginable.

Pooling money for gifts or potluck excludes those who can’t chip in and makes them feel inferior. This company is all about inclusion thus it’s against the rules

Wait since when is collecting among team members against rules? Pre-covid we would do that 3-4 times a year for Christmas, and baby/wedding showers. Everyone from Associate through Executive Director would pitch in $5-$10 to get a gift for whoever.

I think this is just ridiculous, it’s eliminating a basic kindness.

It should however, tell everyone how management sees you and that you should act accordingly.

Collecting amongst co-workers is against the rules as well.

I suppose a collection among co-workers could be started or would that be against the rules?

When we support food banks and give to charities there is a benefit to Wells Fargo. We get the money back in the form of PR.

Where is the benefit to WF when we send flowers to a funeral? There is no guarantee the family will even post a groveling thank you on LinkedIn. So what’s in it for us?
