Meeting and Events Team

Can someone tell me what in the heck the Meeting and Events Team is doing right now? No events happening - not now or anytime soon. They make big money - and have nothing to do. Gee - they can’t be flying all over for all those “site visits” as they like to call them. What they really are? Flying to help their kids move, flying to attend a co-worker’s wedding.....the list goes on and on.

“ Keep bringing your families along to events for two weeks in the company dime.”.

Delusions apparently know no boundaries. We make up many expenses out of our own pockets that none of you would ever absorb. If we’re in an expensive city, as we often are, we simply s— it up and pay a lunch or other bill ourselves. We also pay for our own travel when it is personal. We are heavily audited and don’t survive unless we’re by the book.

You people are sounding off without a clue. It’s becoming embarrassing to even be representing you... do you think it’s easy to deal with customer questions on things like this? We should get combat pay.

I don’t think anyone is jealous. I know I’m sure as heck not. I have a moral compass. See how defensive they are? They’ve been busted and they were dumb enough to think no one knew. Go ahead. Keep going on your site visits to Cleveland, was it? Keep bringing your families along to events for two weeks in the company dime.

Lots of anger and jealousy here towards a team which is working their tails off and getting it done. The bankers aren’t doing it... how do you think these bankers get their best leads? Cold calling? With a ouija board? Ok, sure. We earn our money. With your attitudes it’s no wonder you never got hired into M&E.

Here is some advice. Work hard, smile and help people. You’ll be amazed.

Rough work? Talk about delusional. Yes. It’s rough when a bunch of you head to New York on the company and call it a “site visit” when it’s really a co-workers wedding. Or for a co-workers daughters wedding. Or Nashville for an awards show? How about all those extras that appear on a hotel invoice and you get the hotel to change it so the bank picks up the tab for the massages? Don’t get me started. How would an internal event generate revenue? “Enjoyment of the experiment”?? I’ve heard it all.

Meetings and Events, what a joke. Your events do not generate revenue for the bank, the bankers do. You are a cost center, be thankful you’re still employed at this point.

Can you explain all the other issues mentioned?

Look we buy computers for everybody. We pay the techies to train and enter the correct codes, and how is that working out? We pay financial people to analyze our ratios.

We’re researching venues and travel and doing the R&D needed to ensure successful functions. It’s not like you just go on Travelocity and look at pictures. The extra cash due to job loss needs to be repurposed to growth initiatives. You have to invest in marketing to get new business. It’s rough work. The payoff is the success of he perfect venue and the experience.

To the out of touch person who had all the “extra cash” for R&D, why don’t other teams have that? You have just proved what we’ve known all along-and it’s not good or fair. But the real question is: Do you care that it isn’t fair? My guess is no.

In regards to the person talking about how they are staying busy “keeping their skills up”. You must be one of them. All the “extra cash due to job loss” you speak of - you sound happy about it and why aren’t other people at the bank given access to “lots of cash for R&D? Only your group? As usual?

So many people knew this was going on - but maybe now they’ll do something about it. They always have SO much drama on this team.

Even in a business slowdown you do have to keep up your skills. Planning, scheduling, organizing, attending and testing the networking and enjoyment of the experience is critical to keep the skills sharp. And with all of the job loss there is a lot of extra cash for R&D on new approaches.

I am one of the admins that was promised the world from team, worked my buns off only to be told I would never be hired. I’m sure my age/looks and wanting to stick the rules had everything to do with it. The vendors even commented about all the drinking, partying going on. I had to let go of all the horrible things they did. Maybe now that their secret is out, something will happen. Even now, if you ask them what they are doing they try to make you think they are busy. EVERYONE knows better.

How about the ones who fly from coast to coast for NO reason to keep their status on the airlines? Oh wait. They were moving their daughter. Biggest joke in the bank. If Congress gets their records they would have a field day

I totally forgot about some of these issues until they have been mentioned here. We lost some very wonderful people because they couldn’t take all the snobs and caddy women on the team. They moved on to other things. The back-stabbing is horrid, and sad. Treated all the local admins in each city like garbage and then wouldn’t even talk to them once they got the work out of them. Ask the ones in Minneapolis and Charlotte. They can tell some awful stories. Taken them to happy hour - and they will fill you in!

I too have first hand experience to the c-ap show that was Meeting and Events. Inefficiency at it’s finest. They know what they’re doing - they get everyone else to do their work while they get massages and head to yoga. They would even have Metro Connections and come in and do the work while they were running around - it was just all so sad watch. Although - getting the ‘presents’ would have been wonderful from vendors. Ie; tiffany vases, designer purses, etc.

They’re all a bunch of snobs. They work admins to death, make promises to them, and then screw them over. Caddy is too nice of a word. It’s about time all their unethical behavior comes to light. I know of one that has her own “driver” and when it’s used for personal trips, she makes sure she can somehow get him to bill it to an event. TRUE STORY

In my past I have been on both sides of 2 different LOBs for Meeting & Events.

WF Securities, IBCM and CIB was a well oil, organized machine. Their in-house dedicated Events Team and all related meetings and events were solely based on M&A, actual financial deals between WFS and a Client/Company. Those were called Road Shows and Deals. Not a penny spared, and all recouped after an IPO or managed M&A between 2 entities. I worked in NYC in WFS and was directly involved with that team based on deals and book of future business for our group in Consumer, Healthcare and Gaming. No spouses unless the deal involved a spouse who was a C level executive or on the BOD for that deal from that company that was part of the M&A. NDA’s were signed by all parties. Even Vendors and Contractors behind the scenes were required to sign NDA’s. (Hotels, audiovisual, catering, etc.) Every penny spent was tracked by a deal code and an associated client code as well as a meeting ID. Costs could be tracked and broken down to a penny for audits and internal financial reviews at the push of a button. Everything was reviewed and approved by Legal and Risk.

Now let’s talk about the sh!t show WF Enterprise Marketing was for Meetings and Events. I posted and accepted a position to be transferred from NYC to Charlotte to be closer to family, parents retired in the South. I accepted a lateral role in Enterprise Marketing in 2012.

Enterprise Marketing under Moldafsky was bloated and spending like a drunken sailor. Unnecessary expenses, technology was always an afterthought and the Meetings and Events team was a mosh pit of caddy women who would be better off planning wedding receptions or baby showers. No value or substance to these Meeting and Events. All sizzle and no substance as one LOB Executive put it. A majority of these meeting and events, 90% were all internal meetings for other LOBs, managed by EM Meeting & Events.

Last minute and day of changes to speakers/presenters, paid speakers with astronomical fees and demands with VIP level demands of hotel suites and green room setups for them and their entourage as if they were Beyoncé or some famous Hollywood Star. They were not. Let’s just say the M&E team was more star struck to cater to these external presenters. Mind you, I witnessed the same treatment when Carrie Tolelstedt was a featured guest speaker, all the while she was running a crime syndicate of fake accounts. I was not star struck or impressed meeting her. She was cold and abrasive.

Last minute printing of meeting packets, agendas, pitch books, attendee and conference materials. Boxes and boxes of WF Branded Swag. Just junk. From expensive pens to cookie jars to whatever had a WF logo imprinted on it.

When one persons corporate card went over their max, expenses would be put on another employees card. Signing of contracts by employees without legal or risk review, because they had a “risk person” embedded on the team. There was no tracking of any of these costs or financials by project code or project/meeting name. You never had a full picture of what was spent and there was never a budget set to begin with.

By 2015 an opportunity and posting for a position came about and I went back to WFS/IBCM. I couldn’t take being in Enterprise Marketing any longer. Worst experience in my professional life.

I thoroughly understand why Enterprise Marketing is loathed and their Meeting and Events team is a waste of resources and salaries. I had first hand experience and witnessed the malfunction and dysfunction in the entire LOB and all Business Units in Enterprise Marketing.

They are doing probably like the rest of us - waiting for the chainsaw to start. I heard a bunch of them got laid off or are in the process of getting laid off. They got reorg’d. Their biz model should change to keep up - but for that to happen Wf would need to invest in tech to actually host virtual events... but you know sh– moves as fast as snails around here. Also technology is a sh–show.
