Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

What day of the week do layoffs typically happen?

I'm planning on resigning in the next couple of weeks but do not want to do so if I could potentially recieve a package a day or two before

Just logged off, no meeting scheduled for me. I'll log back on later tonight to check again. My manager logs of at 6 pm so I am not in the clear just yet.

@rya+173MctgS sorry to hear. Hold your head up and take the meeting with dignity and class. You’ll be glad you did.

Godspeed to you.

@rya Can you share what department you are in?

@rya Wow sorry, I don't totally understand what you wrote about the meetings but it doesn't sound good. I was laid off from WF a few years ago and that's how it went down, except I got the invite around lunchtime, for end of day.

Rough to send it out the night before because it'll be such a stressful evening. Maybe the meeting is for something else, but it's good to prepare yourself mentally. Please take care.

You can't undo anything now, so don't beat yourself up. Banking is a small world, so you did the right thing by keeping on doing your work.

Best of luck to you.

It’s ten min til five and my manager and his manager just dropped a calendar invite for a meeting tomorrow at 8:30. My manager has a meeting that just dropped with me and 1:1 at 8. I’m guessing I’m out. I did get some hints and clues from my manager. “It doesn’t look good”, “what other options did you have?”, “things have been really stressful determining the cuts”. I knew this was coming. He was giving the signals. I was just being a good citizen and working. I should have started looking the minute he told me.

@sfi is correct.

During initial 60-day notice period (clock starts ticking when you're notified of your displacement), you are still an employee. If you leave during 60 days (doesn't matter what the ratio of working/non-working is), you will NOT get severance.

Severance (separation pay) begins the day AFTER 60-day notice period ends.

I know this because I went through it myself.

You could try to negotiate a signing bonus (if appropriate, and you feel comfortable doing that), but that's usually done to offset missing out on prior employer's EOY bonus. And most companies know there will be little to no bonuses at WF this year, based on dividend, etc. ;-)

Best of luck to you! Grab that brass ring and don't look back.

The boost to your mental health and excitement for a bright future will more than offset $$$ from this dilapidated company.

If you have another opportunity that's time dependent, don't squander it – just go. If not, why resign if you think it's possible you'll get a package in the coming days, weeks, or months?

The managers who are doing the layoffs tomorrow... do they know exactly who they are laying off, or has HR already shared that information with them?

9/22 is a big notice date.

I think it could be any day except Monday and Friday. Lots of tactical reasons, including that folks probably take Fridays and Mondays off more than any other day. Complicates things when lots of impacted employees are OOO on layoff day.

Congratulations. Do you have an offer from another company? I ask because if you resign during the 60 day workout period, you are still technically an employee and therefore won't get severance if you quit during that time. You'd have to wait until your severance period begins to start your new job. Hope you manage to get a new job AND full severance. That's living the dream!
