It seems like so many people at Wells Fargo are fake. They promote the image they want others to think of them as. I have watched people act terrible. I have watched others lose themself to be a corporate spokesperson. These people use these stupid terms to try and act like they are studious and polished. Then the talk of layoffs. Those at the top usually go to meetings all day to talk about feel-good BS and do not actually work. Meanwhile others work hard and will probably be fired. Clean house at the top if you don’t like the way it’s run. It STARTS from the top down and not the bottom up!

@waa Most brilliant assessment I've ever seen. Spot on! And with the decades of incestuous hiring within the industry, all of financial services organizations infected each other. A toxic virus that spread to each and every company in the industry.
This is why NO ONE outside of the industry wants to hire people from these cos. Too risky that the virus will ruin their culture.
It's the gift that keeps on giving for those of us with character and competence, suffering in silence, wanting to scream at the top of our lungs sometimes.
We're among (and at the mercy of) wolves.
@ked, you must work where I work. They are all in high school (never left) and have their leader and bully left and right. The leader sits there and gossips about anything and everything - constantly. She knows how much everyone makes and what they had for dessert the night before, and blah, blah, blah... It is so completely toxic. I separated myself from all of them a long time ago and my life has been so much better.
These are the ones that fake "stress" leave for three months every year.
Better than a bunch of catty, cliquey, insecure women who turn the office into school yard bullying. I'm a woman and witnessed it numerous times under their wrath.
Hey- Everyone has different experiences in their lives, so there are different opinions. My viewpoint is that it is not like that everywhere, that it is not all of corporate America, and it is not necessarily a reality that we all just have to adapt to or accept. There are good firms out there, run by intuitive ethical leaders, who can spot raw talent and see through the yes-men. Unfortunately, Wells Fargo is not one of those firms.
The big banks and Wall Street firms are the worst examples of corporate America. Mostly run by white men who went to certain schools and belong to the right country clubs. And they prefer to hire and promote their own. I can promise you they would continue on this path if they weren’t under social pressure to change. And the change is mighty slow. The elitist, pompous fakery and fraudulence starts at the top and trickles down. Employees witness around them who is doing what to get ahead, and who is not, and adjust accordingly. Here, it is the fake yes-men who thrive.
I used to work for a manager at another firm who called out the yes-men and belittled them publicly for s—ing up. He would say “ I didn’t hire you to agree with me all the time, I need people who can think for themselves because I can’t possibly think of everything myself.” He appreciated that multiple heads would be better than one. He admired and promoted people who played the Devils Advocate when necessary. The end result was that our planning and solutions, etc were well thought out, properly vetted, and most often successful. Not a hot-mess like it is here.
Then I came to Wells Fargo and it was a culture shock. Here it is the yes-men who climb the ladder. The managers don’t want to hear your viewpoint and they shut you down or shut you out. They want people who agree with them, people who won’t slow them down or get in their way. They want your support on a plan that will make them, personally, look good even if it’s not good for the business or our clients. You will thrive if you learn to agree with them and tell them how brilliant they are. Here, they pit managers and LOBs against each other competitively to come in under some inexplainable random budget or meet some equally random deadline. They even force competition on meaningless bs: who’s employees gave the most to United Way, who’s employees have completed compliance classes ahead of schedule, etc. All the separate cost centers contribute to a non-collaborative culture.
I think I might have gotten off topic, lol, sorry. The bottom line point I was trying to make is that all of the pompous fakery and poor leadership starts at the top and trickles down. Wells Fargo is the very best example of the worst way to run a corporation. All you have to do is look to the news, the lawsuits, the fines, the asset cap. I see more of the same with our new shiny overcompensated leadership team. Time will tell. I would like to challenge Charlie Scharf to prove me wrong. It is not like this everywhere, but you might have to get out of the financial industry before you will be able to see the sun again.
Fake people all around - look closer, those who fill the pews on Sunday’s asking for forgiveness so they can then go out and sin for the next 6 days before repeating the cycle again. Your neighbors, your “friends” look closer - FAKE!!

I’ve work at other places and have never encountered such terrible behavior. Upper management would rather pretend to care about issues and remain silent. It’s all to keep them looking good while there is bullying for those below reporting people. It’s a strange culture filled with politics of everyone too high to touch all telling one another how awesome they are. Leadership has also completely failed at leading in this time of change. My boss changed. They act super on board now. I suppose they know they are safe?

Welcome to reality! It's like this everywhere in and out of work. Social media is making it much worse.

It's not just Wells Fargo. Fake people are everywhere. Churches, schools and work. Get out more and you'll see Wells Fargo isn't the only place.
That is all I work with are FAKES. If the one woman I work with puts "Have a great evening/weekend" at the end of another e-mail, I will scream. She is a long-timer that is a gossip, a fake at what she does, and a bully.
They all are really good at creating their own perception. That's what happens when you really aren't qualified for your job.
I'm so glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. SO many fake people at WF. I've worked at many companies and have never seen such a cold culture.
Accepted new job and am turning in my notice tomorrow. Sorry for the nice people that are getting screwed. For the rest of you selfish, narcissistic arseholes, good riddance!
Oh...and before any j*rk says it, I won't let the door hit me on the way out, 'cuz I'm working from home.
