Look, we haven’t even attained the site’s final (even lower) TMTS headcount target - due by 2023/4.

Based on the two comments below me, seems that EM strategy is to get as many local engineers as possible to quit and replace them with lower cost KLTC and BTC. I guess local attrition rate not high enough for the past 2 years!

If you are an engineer/field supervisor/first line, ranked very good and below, for a similar position in shell (or other oil majors), shell highly likely pays more.
If you are ranked outstanding, you might be paid same at shell.
If you are excellent, it's anybody guess. I would guess lower than shell.

You are right there isn't a way to properly quantify it. To one's wish if they want to claim they are net zero carbon even. Just like the nonsense EM claims about how they are working to reduce GHG using CCS, in fact they sold the CO2 to companies, which injected them to depleted oil fields to produce even more oil. Talking about creative PR. Just like how the whole performance ranking system works, year after year. It's like a striptease club, every being try to outdo each other to get some attention.
Also, apologies but LOL at the comment that Bukom is going to be a "low carbon" plant.
There is no such thing as a low carbon integrated refinery/petchem site (yet).
Shell's announcement to reduce their refining capacity by 50% will reduce emissions but not get rid of it totally.
The new pyrolysis plant that they are building is nothing to shout about. It only has a capacity of 50,000tpa. Furthermore, this is a plastic recycling unit and also consumes energy. Notice that they are extremely silent about the emissions related to this plant.
Not dissing the initiative as it will enable more plastic recycling and make the economy more circular but 50,000tpa is a drop in the ocean compared to the amount of plastics they (and us) make.
This week, probably the more exciting announcement is the one coming from EDB. But press statements only indicate "aspirations" and very light on details. A space to watch.
Shell Bukom is transforming into low carbon plant. The refinery is right sized to accommodate the new biofuel plant and Group 2 lubes plant. The new plant will implement heavy digitalisation. The porject will likely complete somewhere mid of this decade. This transformation is not only in SG but across the various Shell plants worldwide. Talking about goal settings, strategy implementation, project development and execution, digitalisation effort, EM is way way way behind with all the ongoing "wayang". All the best.

Shell in Singapore is winning us in the sustainability space. We only have CCS in concept stage but they already have a plant and a target to work towards. Where’s GC in this? How come we are always slower than the competition.
I quit the company 5 months ago from engineering services to go into another industry (sustainability). I didn’t get a much higher salary bump as compared to peers who jump to tech industries but felt much happier now without getting fed BS about TMTS, PIP. Can see that the company is still helpless with regards to attrition rate. Knew of a few more engineers who threw letter this month without waiting for the increment in Dec.

Fact: Unlike engineers and management staff, when >50% of our Process technicians and OSs quit, the manufacturing site will be forced to initiate BCP and shutdown some major units, to run on limp mode.
This will not be sustainable for the mid-to-long term … and EM will need to declare force majeure eventually.

The truth that no one is admitting is that leveraging on TC is way more cheaper than hiring someone from SG. See the past few months when so many PEs left, their jobs were easily taken care by KLTC. As a boardman, I only recognize them by their voices. We kept hearing the management talking about people, just too bad la, the people they are talking about are not the SG folks, more of the TC folks. No more memories for the next birthday.
You can go yammer and search “emagine”. Don’t get your hopes too high, it’s grassroots activities to help “invigorate” the community. I think it’s led by good energetic folks with positive intention
But if you think about it, we’re all at the mercy of our different global functions, and ultimately Dallas. What can a Singapore controls manager clarify for you if you work in procurement? The manufacturing head can’t help you one bit if F&L or EMIT move your job to India or Bangkok. Especially if you are in a globalised function… look at EMIT, global wanted to axe the population, then kena axe, lucky got $, all so happy.
Even for functions that seem to have local jobs like controllers, they are constantly under the threat of Bangkok taking bigger and bigger share of the pie. So many people from controllers faster zao, whatever their managers say also useless, reality is stark

No. H2 from electrolysis of water will be too costly and slow.
Currently, most of the world’s industrial H2 is made in bulk, from natural gas feeding a steam methane reformer. Cheaper and faster than electrolysis can ever be!
It’s only issue is the CO2 by-product.
However, with CCS (Carbon Capture Sequestration) technology, the CO2 can be contained (subterraneanly-buried, in inert form) - to give blue-H2 (vs green-H2), all compliant with LCS.
That will be the desired end game, whereby H2 fuelcell-powered cars can be refilled “full-tank” within just a couple of minutes (no different from today’s gasoline-engined cars).
H2 cells are just wierd. Why would u convert H2 from water using electricity, then convert H2 back to electricity to power the car??? Energy is lost in between and not efficient compared to direct electric car...
Actually, Audi and Volvo are already on board H2 fuel cell.
And in Japan, Honda and Nissan have been holding hands with Toyota on H2 technology, as the best thing since sliced bread.
China is expanding its hydrogen fuelling infrastructure, with several carmakers now working on fuel-cell cars, including Great Wall Motor, which plans to develop hydrogen-powered SUVs.

I am with you on the world’s long-term view on EVs. I don’t think battery technology (and it’s safe disposal) will ever be environmentally-sustainable … heck, it is worse than plastic!
If we look at what’s happening in the US (which has the highest density of EV superchargers in the world, especially in California, first - and mostly owned by Tesla), many an EV model from the various car manufacturers have been knocking on Musk’s door, to enter into a JV agreement to utilise and ride on Tesla’s far-reaching supercharging network.
Think: Ratable Opex/year vs up-front Capex, with depreciation!
I think that’s a damn good value proposition on a technology with quite an uncertain, long-term future.
You see, this allows Tesla’s competitors to jump ship to hydrogen fuel cells and bail out completely from the EV market, once HV becomes the world’s next de facto standard.
Tesla will be the only player, miserably left holding on to their huge (hot potato), wasted asset of supercharger networks around the country, when that happens.
Do you think Musk is not aware of this? He’s a bright guy right? And Toyota is his arch nemesis.

Singapore’s decision to adopt EV (and build thousands of charging stations to support), will end up in an environmental disaster (continued GHG emissions) and a waste disposal nightmare!
Note: EVs will never attain a zero carbon footprint, insofar as battery disposal has not attained an environmentally-sustainable solution!
Facts:
(1) SG Gencos are 95% NG-fueled. CO2 and NOx are still spewing into our atmosphere … and at an even higher emissions rate.
(2) Unlike the larger countries, our green options on wind, geothermal and hydroelectric sourced are almost zilch.
(3) The academia on solar power had advised the GoS that SG is too cloudy, dusty and humid for solar to be viable long term. Can’t justify the breakeven for solar’s minuscule output … and with time, panels will be covered in dust, grime, moss and mildew.
(4) NCCS, EDB, EMA, MPA and CAAS had jointly announced the development and deployment of SG’s low-carbon technology solutions shall be focused on Hydrogen and CCS. The lifespan of EVs will inevitably be challenged … and the writing’s already on the wall.

These 3 large vehicle manufacturers are now up against Elon Musk’s emerging empire. News have come in that Volkswagen AG (including Audi, Skoda, SEAT) is also turning their cross-hair toward hydrogen vehicles.
Note: The Toyota Mirai, running on H2 fuel cells, is already on sale in Japan and the USA.
