I know one such person. Every time he met people will shake their hand and ask “how are you sir”. Sound familiar? It only happen during election. But it occurs almost every shift in my team.

At control room, at cubicle, along the corridor, inside locker. But little did these people knows he treat you as alliance if you have value. No value, he stabbed you to gain stronger than you.

If it is not politic. Why do some behave so toxic?

While I work to support business unit even at expense of personal time. All I received is classified to be Wayang. While organising dragon boat, facilitating management BBQ gathering, laughing at supervisor not funny jokes, buying roti prata for bosses and hang outside their office, being a Lalang person (depending where the wind blow). All these are considered Networking.

Sick and tired of hearing people telling others to quit here because of their supervisor actions. Lets hear what you can do to make your supervisor quit. Roll away…

Ccb la my workload doubled since COVID because of the attrition, now my ranking suffer because I never go above and beyond. Wtf so many ES engineers have to take on the multiple workload , you want the remaining engineers to quit right

Actually this is how the process work. In CL 26 - 27 rank group for engineers / SLS etc Your boss the SLS will rank you first as a group. But the one who rank your boss the SLS will be his boss the DH, so called slotted in, which is later on. But then as an individual contributor, it is tough fighting with people in supervisory positions

Seems like Shell is always advanced and ahead of em leh

Be grateful, Shell is closing down, while EM stay strong. If EM is bad, Shell is even a worse place to be with dirty politics, egoistic people, and plenty of harrassments in many forms. Safety performance is sh-t, mess up operation run by cronies and you will survive only by connections.

Look at the mirror. Incompetent runs through all level of EM. Not only FLS. Take charge of your life and stop blaming others.

I cannot help it but to agree on this part Unexciting people… it is like a disease spreading across to the entire company.. even for process team the moral will just get lower and lower. Because of a handful of incompetent FLS which is good enough to ruined the entire business unit..

U need 48 months to recoup the bond and that is a long time.

Cons:

  1. Sunset industry. Imagine learning not transferable skills.
  2. The department, company, or position may not last another 4 years. You may even get PIP before that and that is sometimes not within your control because it is very subjective or plainly they need someone to be at the bottom.
  3. Unexciting people - the good and experienced ones have left, you will be working with a lot of frustrations because no one really knows what's going on. Rules, processes were set last time, but no one understands it now. Tweaking by current mgmt made it worse. Imagine u have leaders asking what is the current procedures to freshies... That is happening. Morale is low. And you are managing the mistakes from your new colleagues from the so called 'high value engineering centre'.

Scroll to earlier posts, they were some insights about project department, DTI, low cost country outsourcing.

You have to make decision yourself as we don't know your situation and aspiration. But make sure you make a conscious and well informed decision.

Any project engineers from Exxon can share how it’s like working there? Got an offer from them for this role which is a 20% increment (~$825) of my basic salary (including allowance) compared to my scholarship bond company now. Additionally this project engineer role has a 3 month AWS which my current one does now.
If I break my bond, I have to pay back $40k+ for the bond. However, the location and travel time is very far for someone staying at the east which is a big consideration. Any insights to the job itself is also very welcomed! Thanks

derate, A probability.
workforce reduction, A probability.
PIP, B probability verified (0.08), you still think risk is low? that means EM didn't teach you well, another reason why you cannot survive there.

Last time maybe have chance ExxonMobil will give u some grand for x years of service.. Now after working for so long if you never kana PIP or warning letter count yourself lucky… the longer you stay the harder it is, especially when you are stuck at a certain tech level.. basically you need to do something like Elon mars in order to be promoted… if after you do big things and get promoted well congratulations to you… but if you do something and something went wrong also congratulations to you because you will be sinking in a very deep hole.. worst of all kana make use Liao and follow instructions until do wrong thing then good game lor… career end

Part time cleaner receives Rolex for working 10 years. We will get “RoLan” PIP for not performing well as our YEE is higher than the newbies and expect to do more. Ranking period and many SLS are badmouthing other for not doing a good job.

Cleaners received Rolex watches for working 10 years in Paradise group. What is the future working in EM’s sunset industry? Waiting for PIP or retrenchment after China 1 or China 2 start up? Shell will Shut down bukom operations soon. Singapore is too expensive for everything. Labour cost is too high compare to China , eventually we loss out. Older Employees in their late fifties easily become liabilities to the company. IT move s to India, HR moves to Thailand. SSM taken over by most Indians. What is left for Singaporeans in the future? EM doesn’t own us anything, move out if possible. We cannot change the company but ourselves only.

EM doesn't owe us anything, we need to be limber and switch career if needed. O&G is a sunset industry. If my boss asks me what is my 5 years plan, I’ll tell him I plan to leave.

“Shell Seeks to Exit Petrochemicals in Singapore

Production assets may be up for sale, repurposing, or closure as the oil major targets net zero by 2050.”

Looks like the heydays of petrochemicals in Singapore has passed its peak. Outsourcing/offshoring is the way to go
