@87wf your comment is obviously biased. If indeed so can you tell me why selective polymer technical left in the recent few yrs from the specific BU?

There are legit hardworking foreigners I don't disagree, but it is also obvious there are also foreigners just here to tick the check boxes and waiting to fu-k off and go back their country, so even if they fire the whole Singapore team no consequences

good people can be from anywhere. I’m local and I disagree let all foreigners go first. I’ve worked with great foreign colleagues who are better than fellow sinkies, they contribute positively to our community. also many of us locals have enough of this waem and pip sh-t and want package to go, so don’t spoil our chance with this nonsense.

In this bad situation, all foreigners should let go first. Singapore does not need them.

Exactly, what’s the point of having BTL, TSS and other mgmt. roles with expat having no functional knowledge? They pretend to care while all they care about if they are not the one’s to be sent back to home country while we live in limbo if we even will have jobs or not.

Hope management will have decency to send all Expats/Foreign talents back before they let go local talent. It’s painful to report to them, slog and get laid off while they continue to draw expat salary for many years doing 2-3 assignments in the name of development. Why cannot they be developed in their home country out of scope specially when majority of Singapore positions are being ported ???

@87t2 I’m a hbf jlb and I don’t own a car. CL lower than 26, 45 years old, sgd3M liquid assets saved in over 20 years in Exxon. Happy if I get a package and walk out today.

Straits times 23rd Sep: Exxonmobil starts new plant in Singapore to produce higher value products

Straits time 1st Oct: Exxonmobil expects to cut about 500 Singapore staff by end 2027

Why work so hard , giving up family time to start up a new plant just to get cut? Is it worth the stress and the gaslighting by supervisors?

@87sh for decades we had buses what. A basic BYD is $200+k now. And don’t forget many of us were not always HBF people; we moved in and out of assignments and many worked in Pioneer and Jurong for years. What’s wrong with asking for buses if there’s critical mass of people? The parking situation in Pioneer circa 2010 was nightmare.
Glad I’d be done with people like you after I get package.

Song bo, not gonna hope for anything. Good luck to the people staying, don't forget what happened after sg study. It is just a repeat. Think it's top heavy? It is going to be heavier

Rent out your condo and stay in JB / Parents home. It’s still a net positive. Your new car will get you five star ratings but mind the LJF. Difficult to get MSW. It’s a jungle out there!

@87px even if I'm promised outstanding with distinction I don't want. there's no glory in winning the rat race, you're still a rat. and it's so stressful to pretend to give a sh1t about WAEM, corporate strategy, DW videos, PDS and ranking peripherals like KOs, night telecons for years and years and years... oh my. I'm so done

I think it's really time for some change in the organization structure. Right now, it's too heavy on top , you can have one or two sls reporting to a DH in a department with made up advisory roles to fill the middle management. It used to look like a triangle, now it's more like the Petronas tower.

There are a lot of senior engineers who still hold on to the old ways, while the new guys are the ones doing most of the work and getting burned out. You have specialist, principles, complex , lead, etc but all doing the same thing .You can see this in ES. The middle layer is almost gone, and that's causing a big gap and no future proofing. Maybe HR starts to realize this.

Honestly, I think this retrenchment might be a good thing for Exxon as long as they pick the right people. Hopefully they keep the ones who actually do the work, not just the ones who like to talk.

@87pv maybe they promise you Outstanding with distinction start start with heart heart how? ROFL… sh-t show and sh-t scores they give. It is subjective and relative, so you su-k thumb and take the abuse! Ain’t worth it guys, EM ain’t the same anymore… may the luckiest get the package!

Checked all boxes. Whom should I approach to pick me?

Are you too highly paid for your role?
Have you been in your comfort zone for too long?
Can you be replaced by AI or outsourced?
Is your department an expense to the organisation?

China one has replaced EM Singapore site as the Asia hub. EM Singapore will continue to downsize in the future and finally exit due to high operational costs.

@87by 2020 the first time they implemented the mandatory PIP, my whole team jumped in to support a colleague who kena. We helped his PIP assignment, encouraged him to stick with it. Luckily he put his head down and just grind through it. It was so hard. At that time we all didn’t know, but announcement of study would come in 4 months.. He walked away with package.

@87bd I don’t know why people down vote you on unvested RSU. I read here a few weeks ago that in UK they gave. But in Canada not for people who indicate no mobility, only for people who indicate mobility but no jobs for them. So for us probably depends on whether XOM wants to be generous with us. But I think they will, cos for some people it’s very substantial.

@86wr Singaporeans only want to be managers ma...Look around every plant, key people who actually run them(MCs, FLSs, senior techs and key process and equipment engineers) are majority Indians, ML Chinese and Malaysians. Try taking them out one shot and see ...
One of the DH in SOP2 used to say openly in morning meeting when there is a major issues that this is not for NTU and NUS grads to solve....
Talk talk talk only.....

@87ad those on PIP, do your best, document all emails, WhatsApp text etc… remember everyone is against you. make sure you do it. And be proactive.. once you pass. Do not give EM a chance to let you go with 3 months wage! They will have to give you the severance. All the best!

For those on PIP program, you will know the results by end Nov. If fail, you won’t get retrenchment benefits as it will be communicated in mid December. That’s why they wait till mid December to announce. Good Luck!

Don’t say people who stay take the sh-t lah… it’s a bright career for outstanding, excellent and very good people. If you all work 4-5 more years, the salary is worth it already. Very few companies now still pays like Exxon, especially in this kind of climate. Plus medical benefits leh.

People like me need improvement (some of us significant improvement), so we need money and time to go improve ourselves. Maybe for many years we will not be able to find jobs, and even if find a job it pays less than half Exxon pay.

Just see it like a marriage no feelings already, divorce is a good ending and the rich spouse pay alimony lah. We all get deserted is heartbreaking one
