ExxonMobil (NYSE: XOM) has outlined that it is undertaking “thorough and thoughtful” assessments as it seeks to make its organization more efficient and nimbler.
“We all recognize the consequences of these difficult decisions and the impacts they have, which is why we’re focused on getting it right by undertaking thorough and thoughtful assessments by business and by country,” Darren Woods, ExxonMobil’s chairman and chief executive officer, said in an email sent to employees recently, which confirmed that more staff cuts are coming.

“We believe a bottom-up assessment is the right approach for our business and employees. Unfortunately, these assessments take time, which can cause additional anxiety,” Woods added in the email.

Unfortunately, this time round, it will be a complete top-down reorg, not just a PIP exercise to target the “older folks”, and non-performers.
Redundant sections will be removed, whole departments can diminish or get truncated, or absorbed/merged into another.
If you read the latest, executives, MPTs and SAs will be targetted, but not the FLS and bargainables.
Sales and Retail headcount could be be downsized.

I guess those older folks will be chopped. These group are hand pick and targeted to achieve maximum cost cutting. PIL/PIP is a low cost tool to remove employee, it should be the best practice to be implemented in Singapore.

Sg is asia hub, but we are a too expensive in this environment. Either cut like US or no increment a few years.

Australia, Europe, US have been announced. Bet next would be Canada, Singapore due to high amount of employees.

It’s cheaper to PiP in next cycle vs layoff based on departure timing and package. Hence lower than expected numbers

Expect the same in SG where PIP is an amazing lever to pull

We used to execute projects well. We used to make smart decisions in the market place. We used to be ethical. #wewereexxonmobil

Now we are just another company who’s fighting for survival and doing all kinds of desperate acts to survive- like PIPing employees who shouldn’t be pip.

Run for exits... if you still can...

“The Exxon brand is so broken in the mind of the market,” says Mr Sankey. “The next generation don’t want to own environmental public enemy number one.”

Losing support everywhere from public, government, investors and employees. Ethics in question?

Don't worry. When mom comes out and says they aren't doing anything from the people let go by PIP. there will be more let go from the wave of layoffs.

By the time the country study is completed and the guillotine falls on the next 20-30% that will have to go ................. and if you happen to be mid-career (mid-30s to late-40’s), with mouths still to feed, children to school/tutor, an outstanding mortgage and car loan, various card/personal/overdraft loans to settle, piling maintenance fees, with little savings to last even 3-6 months.
Imagine the consequential impact on your family’s livelihood.
Sell your car and downgrade your house to a smaller flat, even at forced negative equity, or a mortgagee sale - meaning that you have to throw good money after bad, just to get out of a debt!
An LPS question for you: What is the worst thing that can happen?
This is real and will happen to the next 20-30% of us here! Very soon.

Wow! So many viewers. Good site to advertised and get free traffic. I'm not working for Exxonmobile, but I can feel that the company has done something very bad to the employee. Not too sure what is PIP, some retrenchment programme with bad compensation ?? My comment to the management, if you dont value your employee, the entire company will not trust your leadership, how you going to lead the company out of crisis. Singapore is a small island, the bad deed done will surely have negative consequences on exxonmobile brand.

Congratulations on your safe evacuation and please pass us some luck as we are still suffering here. This episode has revealed the true malevolence of so-called managers here. They are the venom of society; worthy of nothing except basement 18 hel- The only satisfying thought is for karma to catch up with them soon.
For the rest of us, chin up and let’s help each other get through this as much as we can.

Left EM and feeling tremendously sorry for the rest of the ppl in EM, hovering on the rope to a safer / higher post. It is obvious this workplace is not only toxic, it pose risk to the mental well-being of a normal sane professional.
Downward spiral in this organization where a once respectable manager turned herself away when her team member seek her support as a referral.
Every individual in the company is not truthful when they spotlight themselves on their ability, enhance visibility..blah blah cr$p nonsense when all they care is their own rice bowl.
Company in such a Poor state, deserting their loyal employee.

It's very f**ked up and everything is secret. In the U.S., little to no severance in an economic downturn similar to the Great Depression. For an employee of 20+ years with a family, this is turning my family upside down. Yes, I know the U.S. can get away with this legally, but it is very unethical. Singoporeans have some protection or at least some rights to severance if laid off. We have none.

Don't work too hard here, as it has negative returns. Mental well being and psychologically hurt deeply. If still young better look outside which is greener to realize potential, if anchored in the middle better be careful - way overpaid. At the top now, probably safe, but constantly get cursed behjnd. worthy it?

There’s no dividends to give when there’s no more company cash to raid when there’s no more employees willing to work for a sham.

EM should k–l all current taking PIP, save more money for shareholder's dividends. Still holding some .XOM share. EM management to protect shareholder interest as your number 1 priority. EM management you can do it.

It shouldn’t be 30%. It should be 38%, and that’s just being fair to those people who shouldn’t be labeled as Needing Significant Improvements.

Not good at all! It’s rubbish! Others at Shell are getting 1.5 months per every year of service. This EM really hoodwinked all the employees - telling us no bonus, but will steadily pay out AWS through good and bad times. Now we know it’s just BS, and the only thing kept steady is dividends.

Supervisors and managers need to stop perpetuating lies that we are a long time company. Everyone is on an annual contract.

Why are you all anguished about PIP & PIL? That’s water under bridge already. It had only affected 8% of employees. Now expecting the bigger guillotine to come - maybe up to 30%.
Heard it will be 2 weeks for every year service, up to max 25 weeks. Good or not?

We can’t have dignity because we are not paid million dollars. That’s why we are escalating to ministers who are paid this kind of amounts to solve this kind of problem. Otherwise, what’s MOM for? Approving S-pass easily to others?
