Many of the SG jobs are being posted in KL, which makes much more sense. KL is a lot cheaper, and they are equally capable.

@1irgz+16zEvLP3 We are all taught to spot phishing e-mails - and that ought to include postings in layoff.com too!
You are definitely a troll, by signing off as #weareexxommobil!!!! We did notice the double mm ;)

Don’t compare us to Shell. We are ExxonMobil. We hire the best and the brightest even in Singapore; so we can compete to win and there’s no need to PIP / PIL so many employees compared to Shell, since we can operate better. Operational excellence is the sharpest tool in our toolkit!

@1ifsh+16zEvLP3 Yes, that’s a nation’s question that Singapore has to answer - cos, in the longer term, when we ourselves become too expensive, investors and industries will pull out en masse.
They will prefer to shift their manufacturing elsewhere, to keep their bottom line.
Singapore, as a nation, needs to reinvent ourselves.
We do not have natural resources, and we are too costly to employ. Our cost of energy is but one of the highest in the world!

Shell has done it in a very respectable way today and all of us witnessed on news. In EM we can only admire how impressive their comms and union are doing. What is happening to our public communication department, do we even have a real one? or still hide and seek with information. Come on...time to do the right thing.

@1ilfy+16zEvLP3 Will you and everyone of us take a 30-50% paycut for Singapore (any industry - and especially in Pet Refining and PetroChem) to remain competitive and keep our invested companies above water?
The competing NOCs (think China and India) are coming on very strongly with mega large and more efficient new investments, at the lowest of operating costs.
How do we in Singapore (regardless of Shell, EM, BASF, DuPont, Dow Chemical, Eastman, PCS, whatever), compete to win - when WE OURSELVES are so costly to employ?

Im already attending interviews and got a couple of offers. Good luck to all staying, by the time EM lay SG employees off, openings will be mostly filled by other applicants.

Units can still be operated if we are cheaper. Pretty sure most of us agree.

Wow! It’s like out of every 5 workers in Shell Bukom complex, 2 will be laid off!
I wonder how many in EM F&L and Chemical manufacturing complex will get the pink slip?
If like Shell Bukom, you just need to take a look at your colleagues around you ... for every 10 of your buddies, 4 will need to pack up and go. So sad .

Shell to halve its 500KBD production and layoff 500 of its 1,300 staff in Bukom, SINGAPORE.

Experienced hired, PIL’ed and left for good.
Key takeaways from this toxic workplace, 97% managers/ supervisors not sincere and not qualified to lead.
Unpleasant working experience in my years of career to witness such doomed working environment, a place you will never grow your career apart from excel in boo$licking in order to sustain your livelihood here.
HR in this company is the worst I have to deal with.
A failed company which is not able to counter the headwinds and deserted its workforce in crisis.
MOM is watching this closely and more updates coming soon!

@1hdaj+16zEvLP3

totally agree. 3 of them are part of management, LPS advisors (upcoming), tech SLS already management and RL, no idea what is this role doing but sticking very closely to the BTL and making irrelevant comments because she does not have any idea what other crafts do. And since they are part of management, they ownself check ownself by justifying themselves as needed while the working level can be PIP'ed.

Another role that is redundant is the cyber security advisor. Not even from EMIT or computer science background.

EM is the only company that retrench the working level and protect management.

You know what is redundant.

LPS advisors
Technical SLS
Reliability leads

I wonder how management justify bcr for such roles
Many SLS roles exist just to do adminstrative work bcus DH time are too "valuable" for it.

A union for MPTs needs to be formed, that is what HR and the company fears the most

I'm new hired, I have a funny feeling working here, most of supervisors here are very fake. Faking to show concern helping the newbie, talk only no action. When help needed, they always ask you look for someone else, wonder if they have the technical knowledge to help. This organisation is so poorly managed, it's like a snake chasing its tail.

they already say we are exxonmobil, cut ops bonus so they can pay aws to the MPT

Ops tech bonus never pay us, management keep quiet, still try to help company saved $. now use dirty tactic to squeeze out people.

So much emphasis on LPS, LPO and what not to prevent or minimize loss, end up the company still lose money. Wasted alot of effort and time just to entertain clocking of the numbers to satisfy LPOs when we could have used the time to improve work process and maximize the hours to capture whatever credits or left on table.

EM at its best now, doing so much of NLI/LI on technicians but no blame culture on MPT for overrun meetings. RL is also another redundant role, always asking generic question after engineers spending so much time doing evaluation. We don't need a police for engineering, trust us as engineers.

Thanks to the Singapore HR witches who have no qualms when it comes to victimising their own people, mindlessly kowtowing to the whims and fancies of their manager as well as their gross failure to highlight the potential ramifications. This Australian HR dipshi- had gained so much confidence that he could bully Singaporeans with impunity; approved a dignified voluntary redundancy program for his fellow countrymen while engineering an underhanded poorly disguised PIP for Singapore. Had he dare to pull off the same PIP stunt in Australia, I would salute him for his guts.
Fellow Singaporeans, please do not lose hope. These scumbags are just pretending that their HR processes are stellar and capable of withstanding regulatory scrutiny. I’m sure they must running around like headless chickens when MOM first probed. They are merely lying low for now in the hope that this episode will pass quickly. Apart from the collective hope that this scum gets kicked and punched by a kangaroo in his own country, please take concrete steps to keep the pressure on MOM so that this episode continues to be a highlight on their career in EM. Start by requesting regular updates from MOM on the status of their investigation and encourage everyone else to do so. We need to demonstrate to MOM that we are not mere whiners and have every right as a law abiding taxpayer to demand a fair investigation and see punishment meted out accordingly.
These have been stressful times for impacted employees as well as those are wondering if they are next in line. Needless to say, please devote time to take care of your mental well-being and that of your family.
For those who have already secured their next job, congratulations and please keep a lookout in your new company to help a worthy friend who is still trying to stay afloat here. For those who are struggling in this current job market, please remain positive and be confident of your skills and ability; there are still opportunities out there . You are certainly NOT what these scum managers had labelled you as. Cheer up and and you will get back quickly on your feet again.
Let’s help each other tide through these difficult times. Take care everyone.

Yes don't need to whine. Just don't take it for granted, plan for your career. Be very careful of what our managers says, they don't mean to help us, we are just a short term resource to them.

Not too worried, but I agree the new hires better watch out. They are clueless, still competing to be better than one another, but in the end all of them will be gone. Good to leave

Come on, don’t whine. Take it on the chin. All above board and no one has gotten into trouble. HR manager in Australia approved it for Singapore and is still in his job. Might even get a promotion for a job well done.

The company using despicable path to reduce headcount has cause majority of the staff lòsing faiths with management. It's also interesting to see the management and thier runing dogs trying cover up their dirty act. My advice to coward management..do retrenchment openly, if no money, give one month also can...don't fxxking label people NSI.

Agree that it is not a great place anymore, not looking forward returning to work sometimes. Some may disagree because highly leveraged, this happens. It is also very hard to disassociate myself with the EM brand, could be due to arrogance and don't recognize any other brands in the world. It is challenging.

Agree, Especially the younger ones (3-5 yrs) need to plan, as they are the easiest to cut. So basically using PIP to reduce more people first then follow by country cuts, time to plan that departure!

Better plan before they cut and unload a hundreds of engineers to the market.

Look out. They wanna use pip to kick people out again. So typical. Announce at 1Q to say it’s performance related by the time you reach the second quarter.

Better to leave now after bonus before the flood open if your severance payout is little. Difficult to compete out there!

let's just sit back and enjoy the cylon ride with seat belt buckled, it is almost end of year. we have been warned for weeks, and now official news on straits times and CNA, peers outside asking if DW is cutting us, anyhow we denied and still act strong. Seems like it is up to us, we either choose to be reactive or proactive to handle what may be coming. here we go...
