From the bigger picture, foreign investments standpoint, the SG Govt (EDB, MTI) needs the continued investments from, and staying power of, the likes of IOCs and other MNCs.
To penalise EM for the layoffs, could translate to USD investments by the billions going elsewhere, e.g. developing countries in AP, or South Asia.
Why k–l the goose that lays the golden egg?
The SG Govt cannot be seen as counteractive, in favoring employees’ rights and welfare only.
What happens if a cash-tight company (like EM now) were to go belly-up, when forced to honor heavy compensation packages?
There has to be a balance struck and the most “effective” way is to maintain the status of a “watchdog”, in principle only.

You need to first understand how SLSs are slotted in (towards the end of the PA process, from top down) in the CL-based (or rank) groups, after all the other individual contributors, complex engineers, leads (RLs included), are positioned.
This has the overall effect of pressing down the rest in the group, to accommodate the SLSs slotted in from the top!
Liddat how to fight?
Escalated already, no use one. Do not sign the PIP letter, find your own lawyer and sue them back. Most likely closed door compensation and potentially getting some 6 figures compensation. Good luck!
@3xykm+16zEvLP3 Don’t like it.. leave.. I won’t be surprised that PIL may not be offered this time. And termination based on your employment contract.
Die la... every year 8% PIP. We have families to feed. This is our rice bowl and you are telling us not to worry? This is an unethical way to layoff, anyone has escalate this to MOM?
I’m RL and so worrying about this year ranking... put us rank together with SLS and I’m pretty sure that at least one RL from each site has to be PIPed by this year... with our skill set, can’t even find a job match coz so far we are just BS around and looking at AMP worklist.
Purge the useless singapore engineers!

Don't worry there won't be an EM in the future.
I will strongly discourage my children to join EM in the future.
Era of Singaporeans are over. Why will anyone paint a positive picture is beyond me. I still hear some managers saying there’s hope and there’s better future ahead, but it’s 8% NSI and potentially 10% next year. Keep interviewing and try something else- it’s better to jump ship or a boat who’s still sailing strong than to stay on a sinking one.
Remember titanic’s band was still playing when it sank.
Glad to see like minded folks here who think PEs are not as good as they think they are. So arrogant and always trying to defend their lack of logical reasoning and poor decisions
Exactly, especially this short term PE who joined and can’t even handle things around CDU and always have an excuse to blame it on others. Shift job to KL, can hire 4 PEs and will get more brains than this SG PE.
Singapore PEs dont know sh** always depend on Complex/DTL/PTS. They are like admin engineers go around raising MOCs and coordinate stuff.
Not sure why we need them. Move the jobs to KL and setup a process engineering team here.
Tbh we can hire 4 KL engineers for every 1 singapore engineer. And we are from ivy league universities obviously we are smarter and better. #EM4KL
Ello, we already can control advanced scientific research equipment in Mars, from Earth lah!
In real time some more, just lagged.
Vision 2021- 8% PIP.
If they can control equipment from other countries, we can control from KL. You don’t need PEs
More work for those remain here especially those directly impacted by the 300 cut, pip and quit. The work is not getting less no where it near simplification. All add up more work and cost. Pity who are stuck. Good luck those not much work highly paid managers but protected by the alliance of leaders.. some are redundant obviously. Why ? Bec there is no such fare game here.
managers are tasked to have more network sessions with employees to improve morale. Seriously very childish. Please grow up.. you know these wont work.
Fire all the lousy PEs who can’t make good decisions and move their jobs to KLTC. That way we can remove 8% PIP for some of us.
It was communicated down, that the PIP range will vary between 3-10% each year. But for 2021 PA, it shall remain at 8%, just like last year.
There is no guarantee that the 8% will be reduced next year wor - in fact, it could be even higher at 10%, if EM Corp continues to remain net cash negative and the site’s projected attrition rate is not met hor.
The latter, if it happens, will be an anomaly - which just means that people are just clinging on to their jobs for dear life, and may not get equivalent-paying job offers to switch to. Haiz!
Once you are the bottom 8%, your career is over. They will find means and easy to get you out. I cannot believe how naive some get when they pass the PIP and still get laid off. Enjoy the performance assessment guys!
Now with the stepping stones gone. And pay freeze.. I’m not sitting around waiting like a lame duck.
90% passed PIP? Many had chosen to leave and only a handful stayed, tried their luck and passed. No wonder passing rate so high... No detail statistics to share and trying their luck to calm us.
Supervisors won't lose sleep. There will always be another s—er who will want your job at a lower pay. Deadweights will continue to survive long after you're gone because of nepotism. The earlier you learn nobody owes you a living, the better. Keep working on yourself.
let the bosses do the base work la.. oh wait, they didn't start off as the craft engineers in their current role.
The fact of the matter is that Em trains it’s employees to be generalists instead of specialists. As such, based on the generalists’ experience our salaries will be seen to be overpaid .... so most Em employees will find difficulty to find jobs that commensurate their experience.
Going forward , the job will be even more junior ... and you will be spending more yrs on the same assignment...
The older folks are advising the younger ones to leave is because indeed there isn’t much future or prospect to stay behind . Not bec of them being afraid of not being able to compete with the younger folks . Btw , the environment is getting very toxic , bosses are loading everyone to do more ( so that he can claim credits and rank well without doing much). Younger folks just want to do high value added stuff to score well in ranking. Refuse to do base load which doesn’t give much mileage in ranking . They are not afraid to be asked to leave ... as they think they are young . Bosses have no choice , turned to older workers and load them. These older workers have no choice but to s— it up ... end up over loaded and stressed out bec afraid of pip if they reject the bosses’ requests ... this Company is on a downward spiral... due to weak and self serving leadership.
Thats what happens if you have bigger ego than your brain.
When I see some of ‘em drive ///M3, F-Pace, S5 and the likes, I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.
But those with WRX STi and FD2R are just wannabe’s lah. Buahahahaha!!!
senior tech showing off BIG cars and houses back before 2010, they depended heavily on allowance and overtime. Thinking it was EZ MONEY, so joined them. Feeling super silly now bcos they were cheating the overtime system, rotating MCs with other ops shift. Now we have less ez OT, rules tougher, more careful try not to get caught, if not kana pip.
You don’t say.
- g. Toyota Corolla or Honda Civic (brand new)
70’s $20K
80’s $30K
90’s $90-100K (COE introduced)
Now $80-90K
Last time $1.5M can buy a bungalow house in D10!
If I look at past and present managers’ net worth (just from the types of houses they stay in, by the time they hit 40-50 years old):
I’ve been invited to many of their luxury homes, over the years (although I have years of experience, started off as NMPT nia, so no fight lah).
Those who start work in the 70’s (the old executives, all retired by now): GCBs and Semi-Ds in CCR
Start work in the 80’s: Semi-D’s, Terrace and Condos, mostly in CCR
Start work in the 90’s, before merger: Condos, Private Apts and HDB, many in RCR / OCR. Few in CCR.
Only a handful living in landed property, with extended family (and jointly financed with parents).
For future managers who start work in this millennia leh? See the downward trend?
Salary scale have not adjusted much, to keep up with rising cost of living in SG!
Let get real and do not delude ourselves. Good days in O&G are over. Outside better pay....unlikely but possible.....first ask, are your qualifications and gained experience transferable.
I dont to be a wet blanket but EM was one of the tier 1 paymasters.
What other sectors pay? Banking? Pharma?
Recently there was a DH who decided to leave EM for greener pastures.
A DH would be drawing up to and >$20K pm.
Looks like outside is paying even better than that!
I am the one who shared that I am drawing 10500 before LTSA.
Reason I am exploring opportunities outside is because I am disappointed with the leadership on how people are let go so easily before we explore our handles. Also, I assumed that it won’t be too hard to find something equivalent. But truth be told, after searching for a while, I’m starting to feel that it may be better to just stay on until job market gets better as I don’t see much better option out there at the moment. If our AWS is reduced it may make it an easier decision but since nothing is firm there I am not planning to act on impulse
To the OP and anyone else earning >10K, what's your reason for wanting to leave? Seems like you've been doing pretty decent over the years.
I think people glamourise job hopping too much. Unless you are still junior and therefore not earning that high or bringing with you a niche, transferrable skillset or making a vertical move, a paycut is highly probable in an employer's market.
So it boils down to what you value most, and whether the golden handcuffs are still worth it.
Liddat can also operate EM plant in Fawley, or Rotterdam from Afghanistan right?
Or operate Baytown, or Baton Rouge plants from Cuba?
Operate plants in Singapore from KL
Great wonderful fabulous brilliant idea from em

er...er...... Operate a plant in KL need to pay Ah Gong lah ...... bottomless pit....
Save on labour cost but labour quality different..... unless the management can live with it.
Penny wise pound foolish
A fresh engineer, first job, male Singaporean (served NS), age about 25, will command a salary of >SGD3,800 pm, in EM Singapore
A fresh engineer, first job, male Malaysian (no NS), age about 22-23, will command a salary of >MYR2,500 pm, in Petronas or Shell Sdn. Bhd.
Forex approx 1SGD:3MYR
Wow you guys are crazy expensive. No wonder the company want to move over to us here at KL.
Fraction of the cost and more efficient.
