I recently joined the CIB group at Wells moving from a competitor firm (which is a lot more advanced in terms of volume and sophistication). My main reason for the move was because I faced a toxic team which impacted my mental health and well being. Mental health shouldn’t be taken lightly.
Form being at WF for less than 6 months, I am shocked to see the amount of layers, number of senior folks with little to no knowledge that take the easy laid back approach in terms of not really doing anything to grow the business to be in line with the competitors.
I am not concerned about the current layoffs (which is think is a Absolutely needed to clear the slack) but I am more worried about long term career growth in this environment. CIB seems to be run by the legacy Wachovia guys and I am not sure if this is going to change. Charlie seems to like the trading business because it is a consistent profit generator but it’s too small compared to the street.
Any tips on how to navigate would be appreciated. Should I look to leave, move back to my old firm etc ? Wait and see how growth happens at Wells Fargo CIB ? Any input would be appreciated.
