Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Forced Ranking

Hi there I’m 6 months in which I’m told is not new. I started actually working due to “no” work for this newly created Role in Late March. I was reviewed and given a 2 rating. I literally was in shock as this was the first time hearing this. My manager did not even come to say hi once to myself and another newbie, who quit due to lack of work. My review stated I’m not progressed enough, no benchmarks and listed I said one time something was confusing. It also said I’m too detailed. I had to build a process out with no directive and it was too detailed. The review has no identifiable benchmarks and was full of assumptions and bias of a manager that could not even remember what organization I came from prior and Erupts at any suggested ideas. I’m highly criticized and talked down too In a harassing manner in front of peers that I literally cannot do anything right. I hAve suggested 4 process improvements but they were not in my review. Instead my 30 year career was irrelevant, I’m basically an imbecile. Loosing a lot of sleep because if this c-ap. Everyone else in the group has 18 plus years WF tenure. I’ve typed my rebuttal I can’t just let the fabrication sit and have evidence of this set up to fail.

From my garbage review to release, it was about 4 months. An aggressive turnaround for sure, yet I saw the signs before the garbage review. Look for a boss that does not engage you unless it is to point out how you breathed the wrong way or if you did something wrong. That is a very big red flag. Yes, I called my boss out on it professionally, and held my boss accountable to it on upward feedback.

Having children in the mix does make it tough indeed. There should be social resources available if you find yourself laid off besides unemployment. Food banks will distribute to you if out of work. Where I am at, they are a generous supply. Also, your state should have a health plan for kids or medicaid if you have only one vehicle and are less than or at 133% of us poverty rate based on household size. That is the qualifying guidelines at a glance for my state.

To the BNY person thank you. I didn’t expect this after this short time here. How long after were you let go? I am definitely keeping options open just the pandemic is making monetary gain hard and I’m a single parent with no other support. I know it’s going to happen soon just bracing.

I'm going to keep repeating this.

Life is long, don't let one bad job experience get to you.

Be safe.

Force Ranked, Forced Out. That is the Scharf MO. He did this at BNYM. I got my former manager to plead nolo contendre to it when I got a review saying I was garbage and challenged it. If you get a garbage review, get their insight and start prepping a resume, along with liquidating any WF stock, reduce your retirement contributions, and if possible, build a cushion for the eventual elimination. Hopefully you have a spouse that can carry the freight while looking for a replacement. Plan ahead, Plan ahead, Plan ahead. That is what I did when this happened to me a BNYM.

Is this post a rehash of the prior post New employee 6 mos 2 rating?

If so, OP take the prior suggestions, get a plan together and move on.

I think the reductions will be conducted based on several factors, not just a performance rating. (Job duplication, salary, location, department, tenure, etc.) A better rating may help, but doesn’t guarantee anything by any means.

Clarification team of three no work due to new positions mandated by Charlie. Team of one now for obvious reason. Plenty of work just not aligned to my background. My team also had more exp than me.

You can type your rebuttal, but start looking outside of Wells for a new job. It’s nothing personal but they need to cut costs, they need to pick someone and you unfortunately are it. Be prepared now, they are eventually going to call you into an office and announce that your position has been eliminated. You aren’t being let go for cause, they are just reducing staff and whatever work you are performing will now be done by the survivor of this round. Those left behind ought not to get too comfortable or sigh a sign of relief because they will be run through the gauntlet at the next semi annual review and someone else is going to be let go. Consider yourself lucky - you think it’s nerve racking now, stay there for a few years under worsening conditions and you’ll want, no need to see a shrink for work induced trauma.

Stay strong!

I’m sorry, but you are exactly the kind of employee Charlie is aiming to cut. You are 30 years into your career and didn’t have any work to do. You are probably expensive to the bank and not producing comparable value (not necessarily by any fault of your own).

My advice, approach your manager to get more info on the 2 and get the resume ready.

Ugh that’s so frustrating. Sounds like you have a bad leader. Let’s say your manager’s assessment of your performance is accurate (just being hypothetical here)... they should have provided on-going, continuous feedback to help you understand your areas of opportunity. Blindsided someone isn’t good for anyone and certainly doesn’t help you develop.

I had a team member begin in mid February. They were on the border of a Meets and a Inconsistently meets (2). The only reason they would be a 2 is because they are newer and are still learning WF. They have shown potential, shown areas of growth but they are still just new. COVID and BCP plans really impacted their onboarding as instead of being working hand in hand with our team, they got stranded at home.

Even though they started in Feb, I was allowed to rate the resource as ‘Too New To Rate’ at mid year. Sounds like they should have done this for you.

Document everything and send your rebuttal. This is classical WF. The old gang, excused me, the tenured team members will band together to expel the newbies, despite performance/results.
