Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

I don’t see the work life balance that the firm brags about

I don’t mind working long hours but working from 8:30 am to 7 pm with only 20 minutes of lunch time is anything but work-life-balance. The managers are getting crazy nowadays.

@jvg When did you join WF and when was your last day at JPMC LOL. Spoken like a true Chaser!!!

Look in all seriousness, I average around 45-50 hours a week. Some weeks 60, some 30. Depends on due dates and deadlines.

It’s become increasingly worse over the past 12 months. The past 6 months have become pure insanity. In the case of my department, it’s only insanity because it’s self inflicted. Our new leader continues to stack to new processes and new review requirements on top of the existing/legacy POOR processes. They aren’t cleaning up the bad and replacing it with good. They are putting in some decent new things but they aren’t taking any of the bad away. Which has made it setup to fail and even more inefficient than it was with the old leader.

With that said, for some reason people in the financial services industry have this holier than thou attitude about their work. JPMC is literally the worst with this. That leads to people working unnecessarily long hours even though they are brainwashed into thinking they have to work insanely long hours. Go to a different industry and be amazed at the fact that you can actually work just 40 hours a week, get everything completed, be considered a high performer, and MAKE MORE MONEY.

I know my post is hypocritical since I stated I work longer hours than 40 and well... I work for WF and just blasted banks. I personally don’t like working in financial services at all. I think it’s a pretty terrible industry to work in. A weird set of circumstances brought me to WF and I fell in love with my team, the culture, my leaders, and the projects I was working on. The company itself and the industry I really don’t give a flying f— about. I guess I’m proof you can be a strong performer and a leader even when you don’t believe in the company you work for and their products (not only am I not a WF customer, I won’t allow my family and friends to be customers).

Some of you don't seem to understand that some of us have strict deadlines which MUST be met and are impossible to complete without putting in many extra hours. You don't just ignore the deadline!! There are relationship managers, project managers, co-workers, your managers, and the CLIENT who are affected. Sure, go home early and see what happens.

JPMC is an A– in Seat type of culture. They really care, a bit too much, about how many hours you ‘appear’ to be working. Old school, toxic, a– in seat culture.

You better start preparing to play the political games. Like compromising your work/life balance... not because you need to... but because you have to play the appearance game for politics. That’s the JPMC way. Dog and pony show where you have to ensure everyone and their mother knows exactly how hard and how long you worked and how much better than your peers are.

We’ve moved to the same Toxic performance rating system as JPMC. The culture is shifting and taking a nose dive. Buckle the f— up. You work for a NYC bank now.

@txf - What are you doing working in the private sector? With that attitude, you'd be a perfect fit for government work. Or, maybe a 7-11.

Don’t be a fool. Unless you are an hourly employee, Non Exempt, and you get paid overtime then don’t work overtime as a salaried Exempt classified employee.

You’re not getting fair pay for hours worked. Unless you are logging project hours in STAMP and have printed or screenshot these for your proof of hours worked then you are selling yourself short.

No hope of any bonus will ever make up for the additional hours worked. 10 hours in overtime weekly by 1.5 rate of hourly pay is more than a 25% increase to your base.

If you are exempt/salaried with no overtime eligibility, working across time zones, domestic or international, then just do the bare minimum of 8 hours a day. That’s it and that’s all.

Break up your day. Block off your calendar. Only be available for 2 or 3 hour increments. Other than that, you owe WF nothing, nada, zip, zilch.

WF has to learn that employees are stretched thin and not being compensated fairly. Report this to the EEOC and to your State Employment Board.

WF gets away with under compensating their employees by giving them stupid titles and faux Officer titles to avoid paying overtime.

Read the post about the person who ended up having a stroke from 70+ hours a week and became disabled and lost the use of their arm.

WF is not worth it. You’re k–ling yourself for nothing. No bonus, no raise and a mediocre 3 rating at best.

I only saw that issue in WFAS other roles I have had a problem with it. Worked different roles the last 11 years.

Sounds like a “you” problem. Stop feeling guilty when you go inactive for an hour.
