That's not how it's done. You're told first and then the package arrives afterwards.

I suspect those of us hired as full time telecommuters will find out from our manager before any package arrives.
At least I hope so, becuase otherwise that's messed up.

Folks I know who had a pre-Covid remote job received their packages the following day. I can see why WF would send a package to a boss to physically hand over to the employee in a face-to-face meeting. But when we're all remote, can't imagine taking the risk of sending it to arrive day-of, in case some employees receive it prior to their layoff meeting. Or it might get held up and not arrive by the time the meeting starts.
WF has many, many problems. I can't imagine HR being that organized, on the scale we're hearing about, to get everyone a package via Fed X at just the right time.
When I was laid off in 2013 the package was overnight-ed to my manager and at the time he didn't even know. Then I was called into his office with another manager of course and told that I was part of the layoff. So given the current situation with most people working from home, I am guessing it will be delivered the same day that one would receive the call.
When I was laid off in 2011 they also had a package ready for me when they called me in the office to let me know.
I'd imagine it's the same process as when someone gives notice. Employee is sent pre-labels to ship back their equipment, assuming there is nothing set up to drop off in hub locations. (That'd be weird, right? Everyone who is let go on X date has to show up inside a specific time window at 420 to drop off their stuff. That'd be a sad looking, socially distanced queue.) Remember that many folks will still be expected to work 30 days, and will need to hang on to their equipment. So the pace won't be fast.

Not entirely true.... especially with the way they are having to manually do things now and schedule the layoffs... in the past the manager was supposed to hand deliver and get your sign off. Now it just depends when SCP gets the printing done of the documents... at a minimum you are supposed to recieve them around the same time you have a call with your manager. There is a current project to automate all this to where you won't even get the physical documents and just do an E-sign and thats it... no paperwork at all... so while the poster is kinda correct he / she is not 100% correct anymore... the process is changing due to the volumes involved.. its no longer 1's and 2's its more like 1k - 2k and so forth to the final value which has been discussed in the press and here... and yes its going to be the volumes discussed in the time frames discussed... depending on when they get the automation done in the next few weeks is when the mass layoff will occur.... I believe the date targeted is the one mentioned in october for the big layoffs and that will not have a fed ex package but an email only for you to sign...
all correct and some admins that have access to calendars can see meetings set up. you might have a better chance of knowing whats gonna happen based on ur own analysis of your team and being in with your admins/EAs. for example, my boss has 4 ppl under her. one has been with Wf for nearly 20 yrs. Therefore, i expect a shift of two teams into one under one manager and the 20 yr employee to go into early retirement AT MINIMUM.
Been laid off three times in my life. Each one was a random meeting invite with a one up manager And HR. “business update”.

Agreed, I was displaced and can promise you there is zero chance the package goes out before the conversation. Your tip off is more likely to be a random meeting appearing on your calendar for later that day, for just you and your boss. No explanation, probably called something benign and vague like "1:1".
OP is 100% correct.
Anything can happen. IT usually knows who’s getting laid off a few days in advance. In this case, I don’t think WF is that tactless and dimwitted. All banks and financial institutions hate returning items like laptops back via a courier service. It’s a huge deal to lose laptops in transit since this can cause major headaches down the road.
I thought they got sent out (often) and were delivered in the morning that you are told that your fired? A lot of people have said that. Anyone?
