Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

how much trouble am i in?

my manager caught me looking up info on available jobs. i tried to deny it but he was having none of it. he doesn't like me as it is, so now i'm worried i've doomed my place here before i've managed to find a replacement job. my biggest worry is, can he use that to fire me without severance?

Using the WF internal jobs site? Probably fine, although if you’ve been in your position for less than a year your manager may be rightfully annoyed by that. External job hunting on your work computer is just foolish.

"You absolutely cannot be fired for looking at other opportunities. That is textbook retaliation. You could lawyer up and take their lunch."

Are you serious? You can be canned for almost anything. Job searching on company time and lying to your boss about it? No self respecting lawyer would even take the case.

You’re fine. Just keep looking.

Are you working in an office? Dont you have a home pc? You should never do anything personal on the work pc's as they are monitoring everything you do, not only here but in every company.

Also, not sure how someone saw you during the panemic.

LI = LinkedIn. There could be lots of lame reasons why someone in HR could be looking at your profile on LInkedIn. You'd think if it was to "monitor" you on the down-low, they'd be smart enough to turn off visibility to it. If not... bless their hearts.

I’m a LAM2, have no problem seeing my team members looking at the jobs page. I encourage it

Wouldn’t worry. The whole company including your manager is doing the same

Job searching the wells Fargo internal jobs? Or external.

If external, you are an id–t for doing it at work.

you can't be fired for looking for another job.

Depending on your position - you can be fired if you are doing significant personal work on company time.

Your manager is bad, but I doubt he has much input into decision.

@vye+16Sf9DYt is right.

Plus it's not like they can't expect you to be investigating options with how uncertain everyone is.

You can still collect UE if you're fired.

Hang on, were you looking at the WF job site? The whole point of making the job site available via teamworks is so employees can access available jobs! What a tool. Stay the course, keep job searching – but depending on your role (non-exempt?), maybe confine it to lunch or after-hours in case he catches you again. And maybe set up job alerts so you don't have to spend lots of time searching.

Take out a couple Wells Fargo credit cards and use them while you’re unemployed. Then default!

You should have just owned up to it and said, yeah, I'm seeing what's available in the company and elsewhere.

i am still looking, i'm just scared now i'll be fired before i find anything. that means no severance and i can't afford being jobless without severance.

Slack off, look for jobs and wait it out for severance.

Continue looking for another job and get out of there. Why do you people even want to stay at WF or worry about a layoff? This is out of everyone's control. Surrender and let them do their work. You will be better off at another company. And there are many other companies to work at besides WF.
