Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

to all the EA's and admins

please share what you know; you have to see the writing on the wall at this point that the majority of you will be the first to go. They ARE cutting managers, and they are certainly going to cut IC's next, meaning they're letting go of the folks that really "do" the work and the bloated staff's with multiple admin's will no longer be able to keep them. Those managers will (gasp) have to decline their own meetings. Just wanted to put this out there, I'm sure many of you have thought about it.. so share what you can!

As i’ve been a former teller, then a project manager and currently an engineering manager, i think it’s about time i get and AE myself. The amount of work i have to delegate is enormous and having an assistant would certainly help. Is there a process i should

@1afk or @lafk - we had several therads on post deletions, this is a helpful from a different thread

On deletions, someone posted this a couple of days ago, source below:

I've been on this site since 2015 (first with Verizon and now with GM) so hear me out:

  • mods/admins exist, they are silent tho
  • they delete messages, sometimes in bulk (eg all threads or all messages you ever posted by you or someone else may be nuked)
  • they block ip addresses, some vpns will not work as they are already blocked
  • some words are blocked and trigger reviews, try to enter xes in reverse and they'll review you
  • here are things that will trigger a review, purge or block: swearing, use of names, politics, attacking other people
  • got blocked once, never heard back from them and had to switch ip
  • if someone is crossing the line you can report it on the contact page
  • dont post in weird threads, they may bulk block you (if you do, use vpn)
  • they really cannot stop you posting, use a vpn and you are ok - if you are using a vpn, dont use bing ones like nordVPN as they have them blocked - pick a smaller providedr
  • try to avoid any discussion about race or identity groups, they dont f around with that - that's like an instant ban and all your older messages get deleted

i am sure there is more stuff that i am forgetting but this is it in the nutshell...

Admins removed this post - I am reposting it (I removed personal info and names from the original post that the admins hate):

Hi @nnx I haven’t gotten the ax.

I just stopped sharing on here because of all the trolls fighting me over the shared info by the way have you seen how it has all been truth? I gave the exact date of the August lay offs, how it went down also as I said.

The fact Jamie didn’t get her job I was also spot on about.

Here is another nugget just for you since you asked about me.

Lay offs will end this year by 10/31.

Yearly reviews were moved from March to October to legally let go low performers 1 and 2, then the last of team members on the chopping block for this year will get their 60 day notice to be off the books by 12/31/2020 and on their severance package.

Ready set now trolls start disputing this and let’s meet back here on 11/1 and see how spot on I am again.

Happy Friday! Also I clearly haven’t been caught yet.

Op here: I apologize for offending any ea/aa that was not the intent of the post. It’s not singling any of you out, saying you’re less important or that you should be cut first just that less managers will mean less admins across the company - along with the rest of us. Intent was just to ask that if you do have things you’re knowledgeable of, please share! Give us heads up where you can. That’s it, again sorry for confusion or interpretation.

To the EA sharing confidential information, human resources reads these threads. Don't be surprised if you don't get any more information from your sources.

EA12-420: if you look back you’ll see that your original posts had literally thousands of views—you really helped a TON of people. Most people don’t post. The smart ones can sort out the helpful info from the “troll noise”. Thank you for your tips-they mean a lot to the folks potentially on the chopping block ;which, honestly, is lot of us). You’re one of the good iones.
Glad you’re still working.

1yho- thanks for replying and glad to hear you’re well! Let the trolls be trolls and ignore them.

People like you are the true gems And don’t let them get you down.

There’s a movie quote from one of the joker movies, something like “some people just want to see the world burn” that seems fitting to the board trolls..

Hilarious how far this thread (board) has degraded. Let’s all beat up each other while the company gets away with murder. Win-win (for the execs)

@1rip, thank you. This thread also shows the disrespect that each of us goes through on a daily basis. They want you to give them information and yet feel like you're less than as it is.
If I knew anything, I sure as hell wouldn't share it here or with anyone else inside the office.
The gall of some condescending people!

Spans and layers is the exact reason they should be worried. Less managers=less admins.

@1ptd: Is this OP? Come on now.

The sentence: “you have to see the writing on the wall at this point that the majority of you will be the first to go” isn’t necessarily true. At best it is unintentionally clumsy, at worst it is inconsiderate. And then to ask them for info after that? They are not protecting WFC, they are protecting themselves. Why create concern and worry among one group of workers? Then there are some responses within the thread that are mocking the admins who speak out for themselves, laughing at them and accusing them of having their head in the sand. Try putting yourself in their shoes. Not one of our best threads.

I don’t think the admins need to be any more worried than anyone else, as explained in my post 2 down, under @1cwa.

It was strange because the OP seemed to be singling out the admins saying that we are going to be the first to go. How does he or she know that and what makes the OP think that we have insight into what is going on in the first place? Many times, we are the last to know.

IC = Individual Contributor

If you were a teller who progressed their way up through the ranks to achieve the title of Engineering Manager, this would be basic knowledge.

what is so strange about a post asking the admin's to share some of their knowledge instead of protecting WFC? that was the point of the post, the OP just pointed out what was likely to happen if some hadn't realized it yet. Doubtful it was meant that only admin or all admin would be cut.

This is a strange post and thread. Not sure why OP and others are singling out our admins. The firm is loaded with middle managers who do not have an admin. You could rationalize your “concerns”, I have no doubt, but there are plenty of groups that Wells could equally decide to eliminate, automate, phase out, sell off, outsource etc. You could just as easily single out traders, internal sales, anyone associated with travel entertainment seminars and conferences. If we brought out technology from the 1980s into the 2000s, we could probably eliminate half of the staff.

Everyone is expendable in a large company like this. COULD the C-suite and their directs manage their own calendars, travel arrangements (whenever that resumes), expense reports etc? Probably.

Will they? Absolutely not.

Yes, I think too many mid-level managers have admins, But there are also too many middle managers at Wells, and they cost a lot more. Also, Wells is so bureaucratic and getting work done can be so DIFFICULT. Maybe if some of some of the silly overhead, process, bureaucracy etc. was eliminated we'd need less admin support?

Look, I appreciate our admins but seriously the comment about WFC not functioning without them is absurd. I know it is from admins who want to keep their job and feel they are the backbone of the company but let’s be real.

When I worked at another firm, layoffs were coming. The CEO brought my department in and told us don't worry. About a month later, I the admin was the first to go in my department followed by some executives and then analysts.
So much for what they tell you.

I had a phone interview yesterday with another company. I hope they call me back.
To anyone and I mean anyone who thinks that he or she is safe including c-suite supporters, I have a bridge to sell you.
The cuts are going to be from top to bottom at all levels, ranks ages, creed and color.
No one is telling us anything. We know nothing except that all of us here at Wells are in deep sh.....

In all my previous companies we had 1 admin per executive. That executive usually had to 2 to 3 layers of management under them and a good 200 or so employees in the org. Only the exec and his/her direct reports were able to use them on a daily basis.

You'll see far fewer managers after next week so if you are an admin for less than a few hundred people or someone in the C-suite or a layer down you should be nervous.

@ula, no, they are not needed remotely. That's the problem. They need to be physically in the offices and since they are not asking the admins back until next year tells me that we probably will not be back and of course we'll have plenty of company as well.

  • And no one is suggesting Executives will go without admins. Anyone supporting C-suite folks is safe. But farther down the food chain, as teams get consolidated and middle-management is streamlined, there will probably be fewer admin roles.

Wow don’t take so much offense but really if 50-60,000 cuts are happening there are clear impacts to number of needed admin roles and in my group we do have admins that do little more than manager calendars and approve expense reports, time cards and equipment orders. Some do more, but it’s not the norm in many cases. I’ve been with the bank for 20+ years in many areas to attest to what I’ve seen over and over. This won’t be the same as groups restructuring or a leader leaving- this will be impactful

Appalling you think admins and EAs only bring value by accepting and declining meetings.

A lot of admins and EA move with changes in mgmt. When someone leaves or whatever, the admin moves to another leader. Stop assuming that managers are just getting admins with only 2-3 directs. Many assumptions which causes inaccurate information.

Yes, I have noticed recently how many middle managers have their own admins. Astonishing, in this environment. I see folks on teamworks who have 3 FTE direct reports, two whom have just 1-2 directs. Yet there's an admin? Heads will roll on such teams, to achieve the right spans of control. Even if the original manager stays, hard to believe he/she will still qualify for an admin.
