anyone know what search firm is used when filling senior level exec roles? There's been a lot lately that were never posted internally: Chief Control Exec, Head of strategy, chief operational risk officer, chief compliance officer, senior roles reporting to the CORO to name a few.

it is called executive placement. WF has a policy...look it up.
Hate to break it to you. After a certain level, you can include the jobs you mentioned above, the creme de la creme compensation wise, those jobs are gotten via recommendation not posted. It is all relationships that drive hiring. The executive firm is used to do the background check work on contract make it all legit and give hiring firm an out if stuff hits fan with new hire. It's a club and if you ain't in it is hard to get in. Sorry.
This is the way the Charlie can bring in all his white male cronies to run this place. So tired of the D&I initiative being rammed down our throats but it doesn’t happen at the senior level.
at a certain level, they do what is called "executive placement". This is not new - it happened all the time before our current CEO. OC jobs don't get posted. Most jobs reporting into an OC member don't get posted either (examples: this year - head of mortgage announces retirement and externally sourced successor is announced same day... last year A Rowe shifted into completely new/different job by M Mack without any posting or notice). Sometimes they are posted (example- this year hired by M Mack - "consumer CMO" or head of Operations to replace T Cole) but when that happens they have usually have candidates in mind already, sourced through industry knowledge and connections. Occasionally they use a search firm.. but search firms at that level are expensive and the company has been moving away from their use for several years (this is not unique to WF - many in banking and tech industries have done same).
