Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Will I get laid off if I refuse to work on weekends?

Just wondering. Will I be a target of layoff if I refuse to work over weekends? I get 0 additional pay for working over time by the way. Definitely don’t want to work over weekends but also don’t want to lose my job.

@2l, I agree with this; when you are a consultant you would not give a customer extra hours without billing for it.

I would assume this is close to the same, if it is a regular occurance. Maybe you can say you will do it with time and a half, similar to how the consultant world works.

Seriously?!? I have not worked over 40 hours or on the weekends in years... YEARS... The last time I did this type of dog work was when I was in high-tech/start-up and getting paid a helluva lot more.

I am completely baffled that people in wells in non customer facing roles feel the need to work anything over 40 hours, let alone on the weekends.

I have heard of a senior manager who conducts sales/pipeine discussion with his DR on Sunday mornings.

you will be first to go! I am noticing all kinds of testing flying around during day to day activities and things even out of scope; I mean if you want to keep your job I would just do it, but its solely up to you.

Say your at church or volunteering at it. Then u can get back at them. If you don’t currently go to church, find some religion.

@1jmf+16FKvgIL I made no mention of salaried people reporting hours.

Though I do have to fill out STAMP for some stupid reason.

To prior poster...

Salaried people do not have to report half days (they can if they chose to, but it is not required). Read the handbook.

Believe me, we make it up in the mountain of long work hours we work.

First, it's at-will employment. If you will not do the job they require you to do and are willing to pay you for, that's grounds for being terminated.

Second, take a hard look at your scenario. If you're in a role where you're logged into a phone for 8 hours, yeah it s—s but you can't really do much about it. If you're in a role where you only need to work if there's work to be done, you shouldn't be upset about it. Saturdays for me (salaried, Tu-Sa, work on demand) are typically the most relaxing days at work since Saturday is usually the quietest day of the week. I get lots of non-work stuff done, I just can't be farther than 15 minutes from home in most cases.

Plus, if you work Saturday you typically have Monday off, which is absolutely awesome for activities if you don't like crowds. Want to see that new movie that came out on Friday? Hit the matinee and have very small crowds. Need to shop? Grocery stores and malls are dead early on Mondays. Amusement parks? Only tourists, not everyone and their family.

Having a regular weekday off is awesome, though slightly less so if you have kids in school.

If you are hourly, you should be reporting your time in time tracker which is ethical. If you are salary, then typically you are expected to work at needed. Salary people only have to report half or full days so if you know you have to work on weekend, then cut out early through week.

If it's required, you would probably be more at risk of being fired. If it's voluntary, you do look better if you volunteer to work from time to time. On the other hand...Many of the current layoffs aren't being decided by your management chain, they are being calculated by consultants who crunch numbers. You are nameless and faceless, just a formula.

Some jobs require working on the weekends.

Not knowing which lob you are in nor what your job responsibilities are, makes it difficult to give you any sort of answer.

No, you will not be laid off if you refuse to work weekends. You will be FIRED.
