Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

We’ve got good people working in the ranks, BUT...

Somebody break this place up. We don’t deserve to be in business, especially the business of keeping people’s money safe and handling financial transactions. Wells Fargo should be covered on the show American Greed. We are the poster child for corporate greed.

The American public is too busy to read and understand the full scope of the crimes, greed and mis-management at Wells, because it’s been broken up in to smaller stories spread over years. But spell it out A to Z and put it in one compact TV show or documentary?

That would turn the light on to reveal a rotten-to -the-core corporate culture. We’ve got good people working in the ranks, absolutely, but we all have been conditioned to make decisions that are in the best interests of the bank, not our customers. Or to look the other way. Because we need our jobs. And we crave those atta-boys. Make a little change here to save Wells money but will produce less earnings for a client -done. Add a worthless service there to increase customer fees-done. Move jobs overseas to save Wells money even though it causes customer service issues for our customers- good job. Stand up for the ethical high road- you’ll be reminded you need to stay positive and get on the Stagecoach or lose your job.

And yes- it is all still happening today. Possibly to a higher degree. The public will look back at 2019/2020 and say: what was the Board of Director's thinking when they paid Charlie Scharf all that money to further destroy the bank? Once again the Board stood by and watched him hire all his friends for exorbitant salaries, run the bank in to the ground, outsource American jobs and then walked away. It’s the same story being played out with different characters and slight plot shifts from all the previous transformation stories. Historical transformation? You just wait and see.

And to all the detached employees who say “Well- it has to be done, dear, just look at those terrible numbers. It’s truly the only way.” I think you’re just fine with it as long as it’s somebody else and not you.

Agree that someone just needs to destroy the festering boil that is WF. The sales practice mess is only one aspect of the overall dysfunction. Nobody knows what they’re doing: systems don’t talk to each other, people create procedures for doing the same thing even though we fetishize risk. Trying to get a straight answer from a risk person in writing? It ain’t gonna happen. Charlie brought all his friends in and they brought their friends in and their own executive assistants, meanwhile the rest of us are just hoping for a decent severance package. It’s ridiculous.

Did WF get "caught"? Seems Stumpf volunteered the info.

I currently work for WF, and have worked for other banks in the past. Honestly WF, as screwed up as they are, are less corrupt than many other banks. The difference between them and some of the others is they got caught. They're like the slow kid imitating what the other kids do but who always gets caught cause they're not smart enough to cover their tracks. Corporations are not ethical, if they were they'd be out of business. It's not right but part of life unfortunately.

@OP, i think you are confused;

We are in a worldwide crisis, you should shift your focus on you and your family's survivial and not think about others right now. Unfortunately these times are survival but you are worrying about other people and companies where you have no control.

Do what you need to do to survive during these times. I am not sure it will get better.

@osn: your statement made me laugh out loud. That’s like standing up for a thief who robbed fewer homes in your neighborhood than the other thieves. The defense witness who unwittingly gave evidence that led to a conviction. Hilarious, really. I can’t imagine who in the world is giving you upvotes.

@1xtm Sorry about your job loss, some people aren't cut out for sales. Find a different line of work and don't be sore.

Most corrupted bank ever
I worked there as an hmc for brutal
3 years , Wells Fargo doesn’t care about the customers or loan officer, they only care about the company making money. They should be shut down , a careless bank with stringent mortgage underwriting guidelines and significant turn times , although they try to manipulate their systems to be according to the book , it’s a discriminatory lender , they price their loans according to the loan they want if they don’t want to issue the loan they will drag out the underwriting forever till the proposed borrower is forced tibektgegbtk to another lender or is loosing his deal. It’s a careless corrupted lender. They have blood on their hands.

Are the listed sums representing fines paid to the government? Sure would like to know the funds were used!

Think you're misusing the word "great" here. Just because they haven't been fined as much as their competitors, doesn't make wf great. It's more a statement of how atrocious the big banks are. It's more like wf is "par for the course".

FYI I am the original OP. I wrote this in response to a previous different thread a week ago. I am NOT the person who posted this today. Someone else reposted this, so that is strange.

Having said that, I am not a troll. I’m not a short seller, I did not get a package, I have not moved on since the scandal in 2016 because the new and improved scandalous behaviors keep on occurring, and I do have my facts straight. I’m a current employee. I understand 100% of what has happened, what is happening now, and I think I have a pretty good feel for what is going to happen down the road. . I don’t blame the common employee, I do blame upper management and their yes-man minions.

For those of you who currently disagree: go for it. But if you do honestly believe you’re working for the corporation of your dreams: my thoughts are that you haven’t been paying attention, you’re in a protected bubble because of a good up line, you haven’t done your research, you have been distracted by all the bs being thrown at you, you’re new and you have no idea what you’re in for, you’ve bought in to the fake positivity influencers- I prefer realism, you don’t have enough experience to know what’s right and what’s wrong in the financial industry, you’re in it for yourself rather than doing what’s right for our customers and our shareholders, you’ve put your trust in people who haven’t earned it, you’re very busy in your personal life and are just trying to keep all the balls up in the air and can’t be bothered. Have fun!

@osn If BoA has fines $76B, i would hate to think what goes on there. I can see JPM being 4X items more corrupt, that's where Charlie and his friend worked, that makes sense.

Looks like we have the same short seller again. You think anyone at a company holding a couple of trillion dollars in assets would waste their time trying to cheat customers out of $2.6M in fees. There was a gross lack of oversight, the sales deal is like 4 years old now, move on troll.

@osn+16DqzQLD And that is just the tip of the iceburg:

https://www.secstates.com/blog/7-most-corrupt-businesses-in-the-us/

  1. Wells Fargo: Employees Creating Fake Accounts in Customers’ Names

According to Fortune, Wells Fargo executives turned on the pressure for employees to hit specific high sales quotes. So much so that many turned to using illegal methods. In other words, creating fake accounts. Why this company makes the list comes down to who the fake accounts were made out to: real customers.

While some employees did (less ethically?) close the accounts once created, some forgot. This lead to several real Wells Fargo customers receiving fees and a decline in their credit scores…again, repercussions for accounts they did not know they had. Once the scandal came to light, Wells Fargo gave back $2.6 million in fees and paid out $1.86 million in fines to the government.
