Logged in and there is a meeting titled "A conversation on voting, race and justice in America." They have actually booked a Democratic congressman Jim Clyburn from South Carolina to indoctrinate us.
How is it legal that Wells is requiring team members to sit and listen to a one sided party politician? I believe Wells can have PAC meetings but can't have politicians preach to employees on company time and require us to attend.
This company is beyond repair.

I am not for this at all, but I was surprised to read that employers can legally try to influence your vote. But they can not discriminate against you for not voting for their party, for not contributing money to their candidate, they cannot force you to attend events or stuff envelopes etc. It was an interesting read. I would have never given it a second thought if it were not for this thread.
Jim Clyburn is a Democrat. I have leanings more to the Democratic Party than the Republican Party, but I don’t like this at all. It might be legal but that doesn’t mean that Wells isn’t overstepping. Let them get their act together first as an authority to be respected and admired, then maybe they can attempt to influence me. It’s like Jerry Falwell Jr attempting to lecture me on morality.
I don’t want my employer telling me how I should vote any more than I want them attempting to influence my religion or who I’m sleeping with. Serious overstepping of the boundaries of acceptable behavior, by people who haven’t earned the right to tell anyone how to do anything.
Since when is it a companies duty to influence our beliefs and how we live our lives outside of our job. I come to work to do my job and develop my career not to have someones political/ social agenda pushed on me. WF stop trying to make people fit your mold and lets focus on our work and driving success.

Or maybe better still, talk to your representatives about citizens united and pulling corporate money out of politics if you're flabbergasted that a company would try to exercise its influence. My bet is that you won't, because the main thing bothering the Karens here is the presence of a Democrat and the ideas of race and justice.
I'm offended that they think they need to explain to me the importance of voting and participating in the census. Seriously? And then they have to throw in diversity stuff because we haven't had it shoved down our throats for like a day.
Why does wells have politicians speaking to employees during work hours about voting? It may not be a required meeting but is def. A conflict of interest and highly inappropriate.
You're not required to attend. Please read the entire email before creating ridiculous posts on a site designed to discuss potential layoffs.

My family is the one i put my effort into and don't want to lose. A job i do my best at, hope i learn something and if one goes away there are many more around.
Required or not, it is complete BS. The decision-making and priorities are mind boggling. Trying to do too much at once and failing at them all. Of course, there is a lot to be repaired here. But pick the most vital 3, put our energies towards those, get them done right and and then move on to the next. Beyond repair is right. I agree with OP 100%. Same management team with different names and higher salaries. I say bring in someone who has not formerly run a bank and get some fresh perspective going.

It isn't required. It is a Wells PAC event with more to come (so I'm sure they'll invite some republican to talk as well). There's no "indoctrination". The guy will talk about the importance of voting and participating in the census. And oh my, he's going to talk about race and voting in the country. You think minorities don't STILL have barriers to cast their vote? I guess the diversity training didn't take with OP.
If they are going to invite politicians to talk, they should at least bring one in from an opposing party as well. What happened to valuing diversity of thought in discussions?
Even contractors are invited, not required. I'm no WF cheerleader, but I find it plausible that they think this election is important and want to encourage people to exercise their right to vote, and drive change.
I agree, though, that the way it was communicated made it seem really urgent. (All caps were used at least once.) So when I first spied the email, I thought it was from a vendor trying to catch my attention.
Nothing illegal about that- whether optional or mandatory. Whether it makes any business sense or is politically savvy is another question.
