Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

What IT things are they implementing for folks?

I've heard they will look for idle times. Are they looking at log on log off times? Are they taking screen shots like people suggested? what is the truth?

Yeah, and trading teams are under a completely different type of surveillance on ALL of their technology for obvious reasons.

Swear words in IM are auto rejected by an algorithm

Who is they? “They are monitoring”

Who has the ability to use Skype IM outside the bank?

“ And there is an ability to chat outside of the bank.”

Correct, it’s called Symphony and is used by the trading teams and trading technology groups.

@ris is right. All electronic messaging is captured and kept on different retention schedules.
@wnf is wrong. They are monitoring. And there is an ability to chat outside of the bank.
They scan for a lot more than SSN—-drop a cuss word in your IM chat if you have any doubts. That will be captured along with how many times you do it that day, weekly, and monthly.

There is a monitoring system for emails, instant messaging and text messages if you hVe a corporate device. The system is limited to those that do employee survelliance and is mostly used for registered (finra) employees but is technically useable for all. Depending on your area; and what they are concerned with they can use custom searches (words, phrases, types of files etc) or is a preset filter. I used to do this role at the bank and it was sometimes amusing in what you would find out. But seriously, they’re looking for big violations not that you’re chatting with your bff at work. Of course if you’re already on thin or ice I would certainly caution what you say in email or chat as it is archived and searchable.

They are monitoring your bathroom breaks and how many times the toilet flushes. Has the paranoia set in already?

Listen - use the internet for business purposes, use your personal email to send pictures, don’t watch p–nography, don’t commit basic common sense ethical violations. Keep your head head up high with the dignity you deserve, as management is going to do their best to “break your spirit” - don’t let them. You control what you can, the rest is up in the air beyond your reach.

Good Luck!

If you commit a financial crime, we have ways to gather and analyze your electronic fingerprints. We can also extend our reach beyond WF. So don’t commit crimes, and don’t do personal stuff on any work devices or our network. You can even get sacked for posting publicly like here, so live a clean and righteous life. It is not hard.

OK this is just ridiculous. You are not being monitored in real time unless you’re a call center worker. There are 270,000 people generating millions of chats per day, and probably billions of emails. You can’t chat with anyone outside the bank, so why would anyone give a flying fart how many times employees talk to another employee?

Unless you work in a call center, your calls are most assuredly not being recorded. The infrastructure to enable that is barely functioning in the call centers, it’s certainly not being used for every employee and it definitely wouldn’t apply if your primary business phone is presently a mobile phone.

The email scan for things like SSNs being sent unencrypted is not that great and needs upgrading.

Can teams at the bank dig back through your stuff if they need to? Yes

LOL... what? Do not send pictures?

People email pictures all the time, pet pictures, vacation pictures, goofy memes. No one is being fired for this. Seriously, do you even work here?

I reviewed emails for compliance. First thing HR puts in are flag words, IM threads, and chain emails. Do not forward pictures of any types. That is immediate termination.

They are monitoring chats, e-mails, phone and activity. There is also software that churns all of this and creates maps of topics you discuss, keywords, who you IM/chat with the most/least, etc. etc. I have seen it and it is done daily, there are teams that also review these when system flags/alerts or kicks something back to them. When you sign in it says all these systems are monitored (I paraphrase) and they are. So work like someone is watching you, be honest and get the job done.
