Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Cesspool

Att is such a cesspool. You can't find one employee , management or craft or especially NMNU employees that likes coming to work. We're all just here for the paychecks and benefits and that's sad. I used to really take pride in my job And loved what I did when we were bellsouth. Att really knows how to destroy employee morale and rid all incentive to do anything but the bare minimum. I mean , what do they expect when they threaten us on some level every single day ? Most of us want to work but att makes it impossible with all of the compliance or training courses that don't even apply to your department half the time. And when you're not doing those , you're having to read a million incessant emails covering the same nonsense. It's like the TPS reports in the movie "office space" ! This company is such a pathetic joke.

Hahaha “Cesspool” finally made it to the headlines! LOL. I come here to try and pick up insights on potential layoffs in my area and it never fails, somewhere in every thread someone writes how AT&T is a “cesspool”. It’s become a game for me to find it and it makes me laugh when I see the ‘Cesspool’ post. Got to be the same person every time. Ok got it, move on, think of something new to say.

"The audits performed on data, servers, code and process are huge time wasters and some employees and their leadership have built a career around them."

man you are not kidding. such a waste. there are more auditing and monitoring tools running on servers than the reason why they exist - applications. they have to oversize everything when it comes to servers and is probably why containers isn't going anywhere at att because they are trying to fit a square peg in a round hole and price everything out of existence.

The thing is executives are all salesmen. They’re very convincing. So when you’re an exec who has a team that’s failing, because of you... It’s easy to sway your leadership that it’s a them problem and not a you problem. Your tenure and title speaks more than your actual words. I understand business, but the upper leadership accountability is where AT&T lacks.

ATT leadership appears not to look at all tge courses they REQUIRE and we as employees spend Time taking. Compliance training for SPI, code of business conduct, building security are simple classes that are required in any company. But some of the classes are way out there and Nano degrees are ok but are NOT regarded as solidifying your place at ATT. There is nothing that I have been able to see as a pattern to maintain a solid employment status. Now I can say these demanding emails almost daily to perform PAPERWORK tasks must be keeping many groups employed. The audits performed on data, servers, code and process are huge time wasters and some employees and their leadership have built a career around them. The ride here is very unsettling and causes for a negative attitude. Interesting is that most of us are working from home and work is getting done in the same time frames. This is directly the opposite of what we were told about collaboration? Remember collaboration locations? They enrich the lifecycle of projects. Projects are still moving ahead. That was again a senior leadership misunderstanding! Many more poor decision makers at the AVP, VP, Sr VP, and executive VP level need to get their papers and be moved out. FINALLY. Please ATT stop hiding the weak minded executives that get moved out and placed in mindless jobs maintaining their salary and adding no value. The old IT leader under Donovan was shuffled off when it was determined she had zero idea what she was taking about. ATT can recover but it starts with better leadership that need to be held TOTALLY ACCOUNTABLE. Good luck to all of us!!

This place is such a bureaucratic mess. I have so much compliance bullsh1t to deal with that most of my day isn't even spent doing anything actually productive. This company has lost its way to such a degree that the entire C Suite should be fired and the company broken up into many pieces so the individual companies can start over fresh.
