Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Any chance just cuts mostly at leadership level?

What if layoffs were, 20% for SVPS, VPs, AVP/Sr Dir, and Directors? and 5% for everyone else?

5% still s—s, but the criticism is waste at too many layers, not rank and file people working. 5% can be achieved with less work impacts across the business. vs 20% everywhere.

Most of the cuts will come at the lower levels and older employees! There will be no hardship on the 4th level and above.

If they were serious about saving money the really need to consider reducing the executive headcount that makes the big bucks and also receives large bonuses /at large % rate (compared to the rest of us) and they get stock options. Just to make themselves wealthy while the rest/most of us live paycheck to paycheck (including 2nd line managers). But that is not going to happen. Keep the rich, rich.

Upper management demotes themselves and displaces a worker bee to save themselves, they move down a level or two but base compensation stays about the same.

Oh, bless your heart. There is no way that upper management will get rid of their own to save the rank and file.

The hammer will fall hardest on those who are least able to withstand it.

It will be a bloodbath at the worker bee level. Even with larger spans of control, they will need to reduce the work force to be able to manage the people. Fewer bosses means fewer workers, but on a logarithmic scale. If each boss had a span of control of 1:8 then goes to 1:12 then for each boss that gets cut you would lose 4 workers (keep 4 from old boss, cut 4).
