Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

ATO - If you are in a made up job with a made up job title, expect to be cut

The old made up Donovan AT&T jobs are going away. I know it's not your fault, AT&T made you slide into these jobs. There are a couple that come to mind when working on projects. Just completely made up. AVP, Sr Technical Dir, Sr Business Mgr, Portfolio Manager, TSM, SRPM, L3 Technical Lead, etc..

Title should be - “If you are in a field job with nothing to do anymore because everyone is going OTT and there isn’t enough fiber to do fast enough internet for customers, expect to be cut”

You have some of the titles wrong..Sr Tech Director is an old title and was changed to Assoc. Director. Tech Director has always been around. AVP is new as they changed some Tech Dir to AVP. Technical Lead/Lead MTS has always been around as they have always had Level 3 and 4 Technical folks originated from the Labs. They always had PM's. The TSM and SRPM are somewhat new and not sure where or how they originated.

I have nothing to celebrate, like everything everything is designed for those in power. This will impact levels 1 & 2 the most and I don't think they care too much about tiles if history remains.

Remember it was all about how expensive the employee is to the company. I suggest watching Patriot Act on Netflix chapter 1 and it describes vulture Hedge funds like Elliot. They encourage 3 business tactics to pay themselves more

  1. High debt
  2. Selling real estate
  3. Lots and lots of surpluses

How different is that from T's management

Next month I won’t have to try and memorize the latest and greatest acronym or catch phrase from the newest manager trying to make a name for themselves. Less threats of discipline up to including termination finally, maybe I can actually focus on customer service and my actual job.

L1 and L2 with no direct reports is probably better off than people having them. I expect anyone making over $100K to be heavily targeted, they can hire college grads at $75k-$80k easy

At&t has been good to me.
However, it only takes 1 bad manager to ruin a good career.

The culture of making up job titles to hire everyone in your family is at and end. This is what happens with a culture of nepotism, layers and layers or useless tittles and management with no one having a clue on how to run a business.

Job titles are totally disconnected with actual work, I was put a title that has nothing to do with my work, the relatable title isn't available in my BU. This is the legacy of the many top down implementations, getting further and further away from reality. Meanwhile, HR is still insisting on doing job affirmations and compliance reporting. Talking about creating paper work for to keep these bureaucratic comrades employed.

nobody ever thought that having a handful of direct reports at that salary band was a concern? How many 4th levels and above is really needed?

Everyone in Mobility is an Area Manager. Kinda like everyone at a bank, is a Vice President. Pretty soon mobility will be slashed. You think there is overhead in ATO?!?! Take a look at mobility. Those folks work under M&Ps that ATO had 25 yrs ago. They are like the union. Takes 15 people, 25 forms, and 3 months to plug a cable in a switch! Notice the reference to hardware. They have no virtualization.
