CDO joined ATO and has useless folk who ran away from TechDev thinking it was the next best thing. Now they are scrambling to save their jobs
Many have Associate Director titles and Principal and you wonder what those Program/Project Managers do.
Conveniently they claim not knowing PRISM. Do the rest of us have a choice?
CSO is another hiding hole with just too many people and too many young ones of Directors/VPs who are second level!! Must be nice while the rest of us work to get there!
I say cut and trim CDO and CSO!! Of course, Flex Force is another joke. No one is a trained resource. The rest of us go through hell to meet our goals and so end up doing their jobs!

Seems that it would be of great benefit to cut Big Data/CDO/CIDO, and whatever else they may try to re-morph into in order to hide their failures and shortcomings. Outsource them to a real Big Data giant and get timely, quality results for less. They are a fairly sizable group, that truly has over-promised and under-delivered, while eating up real IT and IT-like areas and causing much harm to others over the years.

Big data is a conceived solution looking for the right problems to solve, over promised and under delivered. All the powerful charts from Stank downward are looking from the rear end mirror. All the predictive power in the world didn't stop huge customer lost, didn't stop draconian tv contracts, just to name a few. Money are being spend on MicroStrategy, Tableau, data analytics on the cloud, and what are we seeing in the return? Dice up the capital spend in a dozen views, looking from rear end mirror. It is time to stop theses science projects that goes no where. No take my word for it, if you have a big data wining story with real revenue impacts, I'm all ears.

"Yes, huge cuts coming in CDO which encompasses ATO,"

Incorrect. Chief Information and Data Office is under the ATO umbrella, rolling up to Mair.

Webphone is a thing, check it out.

""ATO ~70% doing nothing, at least 50% doing nothing at all, etc." I agree to a point. ATO is very large, and there are large depts that may be doing not much or nothing (not so sure about 50/70% twiddling their thumbs), but please don't get the idea that the whole of ATO is that way."

all the other departments who got let go would get dumped into ato for years I guess because they knew somebody or was related. tons of people in ato that have no IT degrees including senior management. seen people with bs degrees in IT get let go while people with accounting or economics degrees move up the chain. bizarre really because those actually had not technical aptitude at all and is a big part of what made att a cesspool.

It's actually CIDO: Chief Information and Data Officer (Summers).

CDO is Chief Data Office, and former Big Data, a fail, when we do that we rename and rebrand to fake people out. CSO is Chief Security Organization. Both CDO and CSO are/were under the greater ATO umbrella. CDO is rife with contractors and more than likely to be carved on like a Thanksgiving turkey.

Honest question, please no snarky replies. I know CORE gets SIPP during layoffs, but do WT receive SIPP? I’ve been looking through contract info and can’t figure this out.

@1bit+ There is nothing fake about this announcement. The 14 day exit window is for Management surpluses. The impacted are “being encouraged to focus their efforts fully on finding their next role outside of AT&T”. There will no jobs to apply for within the company.

ATO takes its cue from the business. The business has not developed ANYTHING new and exciting since 2012. The business should get slimmed down 75%, as they do nothing, except work on the same plans year after year.

you all know the work happening right now, ~75% of ATO employees are not performing significant tasks. I'll go out and say 50% aren't doing anything, I'm sure these people want to work, but there is NONE. People time is up.

I went and read the wiki summary of the WARN act. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Worker_Adjustment_and_Retraining_Notification_Act_of_1988. It will take a lawyer to interpret of course. my thoughts and past experience. when I was at a different company in the early 2000, I was laid off, I was given 60 days notice. I had the option to take the severance and be paid the full 60 days immediately or stay on payroll for the 60 days then sign or decline to sign the severance notice. My credentials were all removed and company assets taken away the day I got the notice yet I still got paid. Its quite possible the 14 days are just to allow one to apply for internal jobs but after that one either will get a lump sum or continue to be paid for up to 60 days after the notice. As usual Mcconfused confuses everyone and an adult will have to clarify it. It boggles the mind the this id–t is in a senior position, but then again Stinky was just promoted to CEO even though his temperament makes him unsuitable to run a lemonade stand much more a multinational company like ATT. as Bender in Futarama said "we are doomed"

I keep seeing the off payroll in 14 days message. Folks, I think that is fake news. Can you all saying that tell me how off payroll in 14 days is not a violation of the WARN act?

CDO = CHIEF DATA OFFICE. What they decided to call themselves when 'Big Data' was all the rage.

Highly unrealistic. The "transformation" phase is meant for the next 3-5 years. Covid 20 having a bigger impact allowing them to drop a higher percentage this year compared to others. Yes most likely unless covid extends and its used in their favor.

Yes layoffs are sometimes on Mondays. Yes, huge cuts coming in CDO which encompasses ATO, up to 40% was the number stated. And I agree many will likely be announced on June 15. The McElfresh email stated managers will not have the option of internal jobs and will be off payroll within 14 days. So receiving an announcement on June 15 would be 14 days until off payroll end of quarter. Per the Hopkins open mic last week, she did not think her org would be hit this round, but said others would be. Large portion of offshore contractors to be hit. Reorg’s likely announced first, then the notices. Good luck everyone.

Nothing will happen in June, there is no pressure because they can explain away Q2 results by covid. Layoffs will be used to boost Q3 results, good for Stankey who will get all the "credit" for it. Doing it in June means sharing credit with Stephenson.

I'm a manager in ATO. I believe this is true. Some uncertainty on dates, but percentage is right and I expect affected people to be off payroll by 7/1.

Layoffs are never announced on a monday.

This isn’t even anywhere close to being true. I’ve been on many “impacted/not impacted” calls that happened on Monday.
