Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Official Layoffs News

Union rep in Stuart sent this out today:

Are you ready to leave ATT?
Just informed that there will probably NOT be a surplus 3rd Quarter but STs, FTs and WT are on the chopping block for 4th Quarter. They are looking to downsize District 3 by 600-700 people. No specific numbers are available at this time until official announcement on June 15th. They are offering Core Technicians ¿50000 plus SIPP. Wire Technicians get ¿5000 plus SIPP. NO other SIPP benefits apply. Basically, take the money and run if you choose. That's all we know for now so just wanted to keep y'all in the loop as best I can. No questions please as I don't know anything else

Most people make less money to do their job and are worried about getting layed off.

Correct for Core techs, you get the amount on SIPP table based on your years of service plus the additional $50K, minus applicable taxes. They just aren’t offering any extending benefits. So, it’s just a buyout and other benefits such as healthcare would depend on your whether you meet modified retirement rules or have 30 years. No job bank or return rights, more than likely.

For example: Wage scale 32 in an A town with 21 yrs service on SIPP table is approximately $ 23,500.00
+ $ 50,000.00 additional = $ 73,500.00 (gross) x 35% (applicable tax) = $25,725.00

$ 73,500.00

  • $25,725.00

——————
= $47,775.00 payout but you’ll get several more thousands back when you file taxes next year unless you are in this higher tax bracket. This is approximate and the scenario will change based on title, years of service, tax rate and wage area Zone (A,B or C). It’s approximately 2k for each year more or less than 21 years of service.

@1jwy...this offer is NOT a SIPP offer
SIPP(Supplement Income Protection Plan) is $ & benefits to help tie folks over who otherwise wouldn't have retired at the current time. This offer is the CASH VALUE that you would be eligible for through SIPP(if it were being offered) + a $50K cash bonus. None of the benefits of SIPP will apply. Great for 30yr or MR75 folks, not a good deal for the rest, better off getting surplussed.

Well I only have 20 with the company but I may be interested in taking this. So tired of this miserable place. What is this SIPP ? And what is this payment table? Can someone help me calculate what payout would be to leave this place ? I'm a union member but frankly don't have a clue how any of this works. Especially SIPP

I'm probably wrong but I think the 50k is on top of money you get when you SIPP out no ? If not then yeah 50k is not enough to make anyone leave.—no dead wrong, its around 33K. so you are looking at around 85 K to leave, stay up there til you six feet under, Im getting my ducks in a row.

“ Been on the Bellsouth side in Florida for a long time, and the District 3 union reps have never been right about anything regarding layoffs. They are in the dark like everyone else.”

I’d say that’s pretty official. Thanks to all the cwa apologists, good job! 👍 How does it feel now??? This what what you “earned”.
