Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

When?

Given the 14 day window I would think mid June! I think AT&T wants to do this in one big swoop and blame it on the pandemic and the economy!! The company wants individuals off the payroll as soon as possible. The reduction of headcount will be tied into Randall and Stankey’s goals in determining their bonus!

Most of the layoffs will occur with older employees that have a higher payroll and benefit costs!!

Eliminating the non performing the weak AVP, VP and SVP levels can get you 2,000 right off the bat. Eliminating less than a 1-10 span of control at 3rd and 4th level will yield another 10-15 thousand. Eliminating redundant Legal, Finance, HR and Marketing functions should be good for another 3-4 thousand. You can get rid of 20k easily by working more efficiently.

yes, they are following Verizon's model whacking everyone at once. expect over 50,000 losses here imo. and timing could not be worse as most employees will never recover

Departments such as Marketing, Finance, Legal, Human Resources, Executive operations and Real Estate, can easily absorb 20%-40% cuts. There are redundant and conflicting silos in each organization. Analytics need to be simplified and consistent! Not until the company tightens up its management structure and focus on a unified strategy layoffs won’t make a difference!!

You need more smart workers! Not people that generate PowerPoint decks and countless spreadsheets scenarios that don’t address the fundamental problems with the company!!

'One of the original RBOCS tried targeting senior personnel some years back. Those affected joined in a class action against the Company, and they settled out of court. The employees did pretty well.'

This is why ATT has you sign an agreement before you get severance. It says you cant sue. They have figured out the average lawsuit payout after atty fees and coded that into the severance. This has been going on for years. Its why no one sues. If you do you give up the guaranteed severance.

Finance, Marketing and HR can easily be reduced by 50%. There are so many redundant processes that don’t add value. Many people show up to work and spend the majority of their time on social media and other non work related activities. The growth of overhead is the result of inefficiencies perpetuated by incompetent managers.

Town Halls will be done over the next 3 weeks to roll everything out.

First Round: 6-11 retirement and surplus notices
7-1: off Pay Roll

Round 2: 8:20-23ish and off Pay roll in Sept.

Lots of teams will be combined and orgs collapsed. Manager to employee at a 14:1/12:1ratio with 10:1 being the lowest.
No extra incentive packages to leave, and NPW’s Will be heavily impacted.
Remember they said 1.3-1.5 in cuts on the townhall, that is a lot of people. They said growth in mobility and Fiber will be key so that should be the area you try to get to.
Please be kind to each other these changes will be hard on everyone. Use this site to inform people and share what you know. Don’t use it to just complain, and all of you that don’t work here anymore, Get a life and get off our page! Go troll your new companies page.

Always assume your name is on a list. Be prepared with a plan. If it doesn’t happen now eventually it will.

By the 15th all cuts for Q2 should be announced, after that it's WE cuts but that won't be probably Sept.

It's pretty easily really, just assume you will be let go until the org announcement says your safe.

As other have said it's just a numbers and balance sheet game up at the executive suite, don't take it personally, it's just business.
