I see that there are at least two T-s—ing representatives here. Hi, Jeff and Stank!
Unfortunately, your stupidity is clear for all to see. As others have noted, these layoffs have nothing to do with excess employees, making the business more efficient, or getting rid of low-performing workers.
It's all about covering up the egregious and ridiculous mistakes by top-level executives, going back to the disastrous DIRECTV Now launch. At every step, the C-Suite guys have bungled. They launched a sub-standard, buggy, and over-complicated DTV NOW service. They took money, expertise, and employees away from the existing DTV and U-Verse services and poured them into fiber. They are now abandoning DTV almost completely and focusing on ATTTV, even though there is no fiber footprint in either NY or LA – the two largest media markets. And now they launched HBO Max which is being ridiculed around the nation.
The deathstar is bleeding money, but rather than trim top salaries or lower the stock dividend (both of which would do wonders for the debt), they give Randy a $60M payout, and crank up the stock gifts to the top guys. You think keeping the dividend so high is just a coincidence when Stank, Jeff, and the others are compensated in large part through stock awards?
Wake up. The timing of these layoffs may be coincidental to the end of CARES, but that doesn't mean they are either justified or necessary in scope. They are only there because the top guys don't believe they ought to pay for their many, many, many blunders
