Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

McElfresh Organizing to "win" aka layoff

and so it begins the first in what is likely many re-org emails.. Usual corporate dribble about improving customer service.. simplification ..blah blah blah..

Reading between the lines Looks like the reductions will hit contractors hardest and then lots of carnage within redundant and low revenue generating divisions.. what are you guys hearing?

Will AT&T ever un-woke itself and become a respectable company ever again?

Corporations are now being run by social justice activists and their minions.

McElfreh said in his town meeting last quarter of 2019 about layoffs, he said "People, these are not going away". The last FMP which was January this year, 80% of the people affected were age 55+ and had 20+ years of service.

"I wonder how many of those effected “coincidentally” will be white men, 50 years of age and older."

Both white men and women over 50 will be hit hardest, they were in last year’s outsourcing.

Ooppps. All of us laid off in 2019 didn't do c-ap for those 60 days so that may have ruined it for this round. I think WARN law is currently suspended. Over 50 crowd will get slammed again and I am not sure they care about gender or race. Well we know they don't care about anyone but just saying.

They better lock down IT security and suspend surplused employees access immediately to prevent asset loss!!

Just a hint, if you come in and your password doesn’t work you’ve been surplused!!

It’s seems like it was just 5 days ago Jennifer Robertson said she knew nothing about lay-off time line or details. Must s— to be completely out of the loop on your organization’s future.

Or you just lie.

That’s either bad for the people you work for or bad for the people who work for you.

How are they able to skirt the WARN Act's 60 day notice requirement?

I can't imagine the COVID excuse is valid since they were talking about BILLIONS in cost cutting BEFORE the COVID crisis.

come on we all knew this was going to happen. 12:1 or 20:1 direct report and by the way, budgets don't have any $$ in them except for sustainment work. we are all goners.

Also, they are being "thoughtful in planning.... By extending severance, outplacement services and healthcare up to 6 months".

Has anything actually changed with this statement? Are they giving 6
Months to everyone or BAU to the ones who would normally get it on the typical lay-off Based on time with the company. Trying to see if they were thoughtful enough to think most folks will need a year to find a new job in this economic climate. Or are they simply restating what folks get anyway.

I got that email too. Couldn't help but notice a few things. For management surpluses, they are implementing a new 14 day exit window. They want to "encourage those impacted to focus their efforts fully on finding their next role outside of AT&T" (That's almost comical how that's worded). Also, they are being "thoughtful in planning.... By extending severance, outplacement services and healthcare up to 6 months".

I love how he buried the layoff info 16 paragraphs into the email. He was probably hoping we all went "blah blah blah" and stopped reading before we got there.

Hilarious that they are trying to blame a few months Of Covid-19 pandemic on their poor decisions, mismanagement and huge debt load. What about all the poor financial reports before the Covid scapegoat. The billions in tax relief easily covers the few months.

We all saw the writing on the wall, predictable. Too bad those in charge won’t get the justice they deserve.

Our 4th level saw this the same time everyone else did. If I had to guess, I am assuming our whole org will be gone. I am not sharing which but I do think we wont be the only ones. I think they are planning to not just get rid of all contractors, but entire organizations that are not sales or installation.

When the music stops there will not be enough chairs to go around! Except for the millionaires in the C-suite with access to private jets!!! It must be nice to fly around the country to fire people on a private jet and check on the progress of your new home!

Not hearing anything yet (Mobility ATO Management), guessing our L3 and L4's are just getting this news as we are, because as of Fri discussion with my L3 they had no information as of yet on any upcoming activity.

"These reductions will be targeted, but sizable. Though most employees won't be affected, the cuts will impact executives, managers and bargained-for employees. We're also significantly reducing non-payroll workers, the vast majority of which are outside the United States" .

Agreed with you that clearly NPW will be taking a huge hit based on the wording, but it's kind of ambiguous toward the rest of us. It literally says most employees won't be affected, immediately followed by everyone will be affected.
