Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

14 Dat Exit Window for new surplus

Did anyone else see this from mcelfresh? “Organizing to Win” email just out. So that means no more 60 day notice, 2 weeks and you’re out.

It takes a few days for WARN notices to post.

But the company likely filed them today, to meet the 60-day threshold of end-of-July terminations.

So keep an eye on your state's WARN sites for upcoming city-level layoff numbers.

Que the folks that have been sitting around doing nothing but trying to look relevant. We will start seeing a lot of “Look what I did” emails from peopleHoping to appear relevant. They should just be looking for a job, but they’ve been so disconnected that really there isn’t anything out there for them.

From the U.S. Department of Labor website regarding the WARN act:

"WARN makes certain exceptions to the requirements when layoffs occur due to unforeseeable business circumstances, faltering companies, and natural disasters."

Guess how Stankey is getting out of 60 days notice?

"You forget that it is easier to find a job when you have one".

This is kind of cliche' at this point. Not saying it's not or has not been true historically...but right now I am not sure how much it applies. With historic unemployment still in place, those shown the door are not going into the same job market that was there 3 months ago. It is going to be hyper competitive with so many vying for so few positions. Hopefully this will start turning around sooner rather than later, but I don't think it's unrealistic to expect folks may be unemployed for some time. Your resume (which people talk about a lot here) doesn't actually mean a lot; yes it should be updated...but if you have not maintained a good network of contacts you're going to have a real hard time even getting in the door for an interview.

“ We are kicking you out in two weeks so you can focus your efforts on finding a new job. WTF?“

I am no apologist for T, but I seriously don’t have an issue with this. Yes, you stand to lose an extra few paychecks. But you know what, at the end of the day, they have told you they don’t want or need you any longer. I’m fine with hitting the bricks sooner rather than later, and not wasting my time searching for internal opportunities that haven’t existed for years. Gimme my severance. See ya.

Yes, reasoning being that there wont be internal jobs available. Big blow for those that are dumb enough to not have their resume ready

Oops. Misread the comment. Yea. Saving $ on weeks before off payroll. But the severance is typical package it appears

“up to” six months for eligible employees .... Someone left out two key words in earlier reply

And they save paying out 6 more weeks of pay.

I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing. Actually kind of refreshing to see them acknowledge there are no internal jobs to apply to, as there haven't been for the last several years.
