Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

My EGS experience

I was forced off a project (reverse discrimination anyone) to let EGS take over.

During the transition, it was so obvious what was going on.

There was 1 out of 20 EGS that was worth anything, and most of the time these folks copy paste code from the internet with little to no concept of scaling or performance issues.

Managing GIT was a nightmare they kept checking in and overwriting updates with stale old code. Branching was a concept they just simply couldnt understand.

The amount of spaghetti they wrote was beyond decipherable. Production support was impossible due to all the branching and hodge podge of random variables thrown in with little regard of the overall system flow.

Performance got so bad they had to call in db vendor to massively tweak the backend because so much work was improperly being done in the database vs the app server.

dB side they had triggers nested 10 layers deep, with triggers that called triggers. when the system tried to execute the db cascading locks just froze the system.

Good luck to anyone who has to come in and clean up the mess that they create.

wells management only sees cost per unit hour completely disregarding quality, efficiency or scalability of solution. when it performs like sh– they just buy more hardware completely disregarding the wasted network load or san saturation from flawed solution.

And to top it all off, instead of stepping back and looking at big picture questioning if the inhouse built solution vs ourchased solutioj, managemrnt just doubles doen on canned spaghetti with idea throwing more inexperienced 8$ an hout programmers at the frankenstien they created wilk suddenly give it table manners and grace.

Wells needs to be broken up.

They cannot manage the technology they have and management is too inept.

Using EGS is an absolute joke. They can only do something if they have exact step by step directions. No thinking to be had, outside of the box.

I've been in IT for 25 years, major companies, and Wells is indeed backwards.

And the direction they're taking moving forward is actually backwards as well.

My brain hurts sometimes, things are so bad.

It's a management problem, some of them seem to mean well but have no idea how to do the most basic things, (IT is not a new discipline anymore), so they make them more complicated than they need to be, and some of it is CYA moves.

Then again, to be fair, how is a bank with a sordid history going to attract good IT talent?
