Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

AT&T Layoff Board?

Is this the AT&T Complaint Board? The AT&T I Have an Idea How to Improve Things Board? The AT&T Executive Roast Board? The AT&T My Manager and All Managers S-ck Board?

No, it's the AT&T Layoff Board. But it's practically useless to anyone looking for good information about one of the biggest changes in some people's lives. Either people post about one of the above, start a rumor about something they know nothing about, or flat out lie so that you can't tell real posts from idiocy.

Trolls go home, this is a serious board about a serious topic. Some of us are wondering how we'll live in our old age, or educate, house, and feed our kids in a few months.

I’m one of the senior technicians that would leave in a New York minute if only they would offer me a voluntary layoff package! I actually would like to leave, but will continue to work if the offer isn’t presented to me. I’m in the southwest area otherwise known as out of region and AT&T is actually hiring technicians here and have no idea why! There’s not enough work to keep the existing techs busy working only about 25% productivity per week, go figure! AT&T is seriously broken due to their vision which never panned out! Directv, huge mistake compounded by Time a Warner, another tremendously huge debacle! What direction will the come take next...

People need to vent and be heard and this board is also therapeutic for some going through the stress of waiting and not knowing. Until you have been in a situation like folks are experiencing then let them say their peace. Some people may not be able to vent their frustrations and worries at home to their partners and family as they do not want to worry or upset them. There are many posts on here so just jump to the ones that gives one the gory details you are seeking. Try and be a little kinder as the world is a scary place these days. You too can be easily knocked of your throne in the blink of an eye.

You don’t need “the lay-off” to tell you what’s going on right now. It’s all speculation at this point.

What you can do is pay attention to what the company is saying.

All you hear about now it wireless, fiber and streaming. That’s it! When is the last time a townhall referenced the “huge” contributions that anything copper I see making?

I know it’s a hit on the ego of those employees and technology that help build the company but those days are over. The surplus will be benchmarked around customer count and whether that organization makes money or just spends money.

The Uverse platform is being shutdown that ahas already been stated. DSL will be gone. Copper out side of major metro areas gone!

The dream of the company is to provide services that require as few techs as possible. With that said the management and support groups for Uverse and POTS will be collateral damage. AT&T will still provide service to major metropolitan areas but areas/ small towns are not going to stay because they can’t pay enough to keep those employees on payroll.

If you work in a market with a majority copper plant face the sad realization that your company is not going to continue those services. They will allow that service to go away. When the customers in those areas can’t get dial tone or internet they will just move to another company’s service. It is a calculated decision because losing those customers costs less than maintaining the infrastructure.

I think it is more important for anybody thinking about employment with Att and hopefully they come to this board and see what Att is like after you give years of service to the company and they throw you out like the trash thinking six months salary is enough to relieve their conscious. But yet they feel free not to update pension information and offer some quick buyouts and rip people off of their hard earned pension. Att will always layoff after you worked a number of years and especially if you still get a pension. Att is a cesspool and I hope the folks thinking of working there will run far far far far away since there are tons of a lot better companies to work for especially in technology because technology and skills go to die at Att. I hate for anybody to go through what att puts their majority of employees through after years of outstanding service just because senior management gets a whim to go into a business they know nothing about and never will know.

I really would like to see more specifics about impending layoffs with numbers and locations. Details after the fact would be great too, that way we can all make more informed decisions with our lives and careers. I honestly don’t care what anyone thinks about the company or leadership, not really my problem... just trying to figure out if I’ll have a chance at finishing out a career... guess I’m more of a “control the controllable” kind of individual

Well, my life and wisdom are certainly enhanced reading most of these thoughtful and considerate responses. Thanks trolls, you proved my point.

By the way, nobody hates our C Suite more than I (especially Stink), but I'm pretty sure they're not on this board so it's hard to hurt their feelings from here.

But keep throwing garbage if it makes you feel better.

Incompetence, poor business decisions, outsourcing, and other things like that can all lead to layoffs. Throwing out suggestions and calling BS on something could prevent layoffs. Putting heads together and piecing company information/"rumors" from around the country can help point to some possible direction our company is heading in since we don't always get a clear picture from up top. Baseless trolling rumors shouldn't be on this site or any, but the other things actually can serve a valuable purpose.
