Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Big layoffs coming by the end of June

I figured the upcoming layoffs would be the typical six month cycle of 5% force reductions we've been seeing every since the merger between Bellsouth and SBC. This one is different as I was informed by an executive leader just a few days ago. Some organizations are looking at minimum 20% staff reductions. Some large orgs are MUCH higher than that. Stankey is certainly planning to differentiate himself from Randall by starting right out of the gate with a massive head chopping. He should start at CNN and DTV, two huge financial losers for AT&T.

Most of the cuts will be in AT&T Communications, not the TW/entertainment side. AT&T Business Solutions is full of fat just waiting to be slashed. And, AT&T IT is almost completely off loaded to IBM. I don't remember the last time I met with a desk top support person who was not IBM staff working out of an AT&T site (e.g. Space Park building in Santa Clara). Then, there is sales support staff online from Philippines during a MIS test/turn up. And, lastly you have sales teams made up of a sales manager, account lead, outside account execuitive, inside account manager, technical sales consultant, and service rep–that's 6 people coming to visit you every month to go over your enterprise account with AT&T Business. COR retail should be ok, since they get paid so little. In home experts will be managed out of the business (write ups) for not hitting quota; sales has worked this way since bible sales men–survival of the fittest. Since Stankey used to be President of AT&T Business, he can't wait to get rid of all the dead weight. Even the original self acknowledged guru of wireless, Abhi Ingle is on the chopping block (aka retirement announcement list).

This is not about CNN ... this is about poor leadership cascading down to the VP levels esp in IT.

You thought a 5% reduction.....

Where have you been? ATT reported in their 4Q earnings report they will execute on a plan to reduce employee related costs by $1.5 Billion by EOY 2020. It has been repeated in town halls since that time.
