Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

interesting Read

AT&T blames Amazon where new technology distributors in the digital age are electing not to distribute the product," Stankey said. "I think that dynamic is an important one to understand, and it just shows how fast the markets are moving and how we have to respond to those changes."

Amazon hit back in a statement that illuminates part of the dispute, saying that 5 million HBO subscribers access HBO through Amazon Prime Video's Channels feature (where Amazon has the direct billing relationship with the customer), but can't upgrade to Max.

"AT&T is choosing to deny these loyal HBO customers access to the expanded catalog," Amazon said. "We believe that if you're paying for HBO, you're entitled to the new programming through the method you're already using. That's just good customer service and that's a priority for us."

Some HBO customers with Roku and Amazon voiced their frustrations on social media on Wednesday.

One person tweeted: "So HBO convinces me to cancel HBO Now through Hulu for $14.99 a few weeks ago and subscribe to HBO Max separately for $11.99 but then one hour before going live they tell me that Roku is not on the supported streaming device list? Ridiculous.

So who is at fault? AT&T

if I was Stankey - I wouldn't spend a dime on DirectTV or TW
I'd have started a small investment ground up, if I REALLY wanna get into entertainment and create VR content

Considering how long it took to finally get this service to market, it can only be looked at as a total and complete failure to not have Roku and Fire devices supported. No accountability will result from this either.

Whatever savings they think they are going to get out of it will be offset by the subscriptions they failed to get as a result of this. Seems like the same approach they take with employees. Doesn't matter how impactful their position is, if it saves a little money then cut them.

It's really sad how highly compensated those at the top are, considering the missteps and failures that have occurred regularly over the last decade. Perhaps someone should create a scorecard that can export to Excel that highlights these failures. Maybe that's the only language they understand.

There's only so many free HDMI ports on a TV that are taken up by Roku's already.

So Stankey's strategy is to try bludgeoning and intimidating everyone & every entity that gets in his way. Call him Mr. Hardball, I guess.

Unfortunately, for us working at AT&T, this isn't a strategy that works in an interdependent ecosystem. AT&T needs Roku & Amazon in order to be successful a lot more than they need it...but hey, Stankey is tall & has a 'booming voice' (apparently this notation is a requirement in the terms of every interview granted with the guy), so he thinks he can intimidate and "crush the competition" that he actually needs.

This guy won't make it past 2 years as CEO. What a tool.

Can the c-suite really be this dim-witted? They must be trying to fail fast intentionally.

"Do I get HBO Max free if I already have HBO?" That's a question you and a million other people are wondering right now with HBO Max's launch.

WarnerMedia's new streaming service hasn't communicated its availability and accessibility very well, leaving you wondering about the differences between HBO Max vs HBO Go vs HBO Now and the list of devices that can download the HBO Max app.

HBO Max is finally here but do you need it?

HBO Max might not support Roku and Fire TV at launch
Plus, HBO Max surprised everybody on launch day by introducing a seven-day free trial for any new subscribers. Previously, they offered a preorder discount deal (now expired) and free trials to only some AT&T wireless and internet customers. But now anybody can get an HBO Max free trial for a week, then pay the $14.99 monthly fee afterward. More on that below.

It's all very confusing. That's why we're here with a simple guide to who gets HBO Max free.

Is HBO Max free if I already have HBO through cable?
If you already subscribe to HBO through a cable provider, you probably get HBO Max free. During the middle of the first day of HBO Max, the service announced it inked a deal with Comcast (which has own streaming service in Peacock and may have been playing hardball) is complete.

If you get HBO through any of these cable providers, you automatically get HBO Max:

Just sign into HBO Max with the login credentials you use for your current HBO service. It worked for Tom's Guide editor Henry T. Casey.

Is HBO Max free if I have HBO Now?
HBO NOW is HBO's standalone streaming service for digital subscribers. You get HBO Max free and automatically if you subscribe to HBO NOW through certain partners.

On May 27, your HBO NOW app should automatically update (if you have automatic updates turned on) to the HBO Max app on supported devices. All you have to do is sign in with your HBO NOW email and password, then select Access all of HBO Max.

Is HBO Max free if I have HBO on Amazon or Roku?
At this time, you cannot get HBO Max on Roku or Amazon. WarnerMedia still hasn't made deals with the two companies, which make some of the best streaming devices on the market.

Lol Stankey knows more than anybody and who cares about the customer except the gang at pebble peach. You can’t make this stuff up if you tried.
