Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Store Closures, layoffs and moving people around

Lots of calls around the country informing stores closing, layoffs and dispersing the front line in different locations to balance staffing. More also might go back to work from home positions or stay in them if you haven’t gone back to your store yet. Had a management call then an “all retail” call to tell the reps it’s coming. I can confirm these calls have happened in at least 5 major markets. If anyone else has had these calls post your details.

I was on a picket line in front of a wireless store and I recall many ignorant young bucks within that store treating us "old-timers" as if we were worthless, complaining, POS. To be fair, their manager seemed a real gentleman who was humane and sought to only diffuse the situation - I hope he's still there if that is his desire too.
It's funny how the passage of time wakes some folks up, or doesn't.

Like you have a choice. I know a lot of corporate reps that had the same mentality.

Indirect will carry the torch into the future of brick and mortar retail. Congratulations, you are now the champions of an outdated shopping experience.

if you think there’s a promising future in retail sales i envy your optimism. Indirect or corporate it really doesn’t matter, traffic is down. Franchises live off the brand name and if corporate doesn’t want stores anymore what does that tell you?

I know what I know because its not a secret.Corporate employees have been entitled and for this reason everything is playing out the way it is.

I’ve worked with indirect accounts managers. Your job is to check on merchandising compliance with an iPad, plan knowledge amongst the team, and field calls from store ownership. While you need some soft skills you don’t need any real skills. Your job will be eliminated sooner or later. Btw we know you’re not an indirect rep, you know too much.

I work indirect and not an account manager. Ive been doing so for quote some time. If you would consider it many indirect have some very aggressive pay structures. The money is definitely not in the hourly. Work smart and get paid

I don’t think anyone in corporate looks down at retail, most of us came from retail what the hell are you talking about? Secondly, I wouldn’t say because corporate stores are going to turn into indirect stores that indirect account managers are “safe” or “needed more than ever” those of us who have been around a minute know there is no such thing as a “safe” job at Verizon or anywhere for that matter....so stop being c—y, practice some humility, and go make some money.

Its funny that you say that. My bank account doesnt reflect that. Well over 6 figures is what it is! Too bad your corporate and of course you think that indirect is so stupid. I guess that they are so stupid that they are taking your positions.

Verizon making smart moves as this scamdemic closes hundreds of thousands of businesses. . .09% death rate (and decreasing) the 2.5 million deaths they projected in March is way off. We can't keep stores open when customers have lost jobs / are afraid to go into stores.

Indirect is and always has been a way to manage risk and be flexible. 60% of sales come from Indirect locations.

For the AT&T comment, there’s a reason they lost 15% of customer base and changed their CEO.

@Indirect straight to the top!#6figures
Sure you make 6 figures.....Indirect reps are so stupid their check reads $1000.00 and they think that's what people mean by a 6 figure check.

I agree. This is going to change the business up. Indirect is benefitting forsure. The agents will grow and will have more opportunities. Indirect reps have a different passion if they are serious about making money. This is definitely a win for them. All the c—y retail team can stay and work behind the 4 walls

Considering you know about the “stress leave” situation in corporate stores says a lot. How long before they downsize the indirect account manager position, again..No one is safe in this perpetual layoff of retail/corporate employees.

Thats the biggest mistake. Most high volume corporate stores are the ones getting handed over. Get the same amount of volume but less overhead. You can see it happening now and has been happening for some time. Covid has just sped up the process.

Well these will no longer be dead indirect stores correct? We will be taking over these "corporate doors". These are the same stores you called home. We will now run them and you can sit behind a desk and bad mouth all of our stores like most corporate people do. The truth is that these "new career training" is just a way to get you all out. Obviously seniority will play a major part. Good luck with your "new" career

You lost me at 6 figures as an indirect rep. Or maybe you’re a DM? Either way Corporate stores do more numbers than the majority of often dead indirect locations. But yea, you’re future is super bright, keep it up!

I’m redeployed from retail as telesales. My store opened and I haven’t gone back yet. Seems like they don’t want anyone going back to the stores that haven’t gone yet. Everyone I know in my position is being asked multiple times daily from the telesales group and retail if we want to stay telesales. Seems like the limited store hours and closed on Sundays may stay permanent so they don’t need us back at the stores.

Verizon is giving all these locations to indirect agents. Why wouldn't they? They get the same amount of numbers or more yet they pay less overhead. This is also due to many representatives abusing the benefits that Vzw offered. All these people want to go on "stress leave" and think they are taking advantage yet you guys screwed many people over in the long run. Thinking that way has set many locations in jeopardy and that being said I would love to help take over these location. The indirect side of the business has always been looked at like a black sheep however I am glad to assist these guest as we always do. Cant wait to maximize on this opportunity. And for those who think that indirect is a black sheep that is fine. I will continue to serve our guest while still making well over 6 figures

Where is the severance for people whose centers closed? Why arent they being given options too?

I got the call this morning about the closure and our options. Waiting to see what the pay will be like to do CS or Telesales from home. Not like we have much of a choice in this collapsing economy. Risking it all in this job market with about 4 months severance is not a wise decision, given the unemployment claims I see every week. The position you select will also not be guaranteed, they will go by seniority to who will get what.

Maybe Vz will be training all these employees in the 200 plus stores that are closing as part of the plan to retool 500,000 Americans

Yes. Verizon is closing stores all across the country. Probably close to 200. If your store hasn't opened back from Covid closures be prepared, you probably won't. Good luck moving to a different store, the stores that are opened are all over staffed and on hiring freezes because of the reduced Covid hours. They will not come off the freeze until your severance window has ended. Take the severance and run. VZW has been going downhill ever since Hans took over as CEO. They don't care about sales or performance. They especially don't care about their people. Just look at what other companies are doing for their employees right now (Amazon) compared to Verizon. For a fortune 20 company that makes 100's of billions of dollars a year to use this pandemic as an opportunity to correct previous mistakes with their build out footprint and staffing levels is deplorable. Especially at the expense of hard working and dedicated team members. It simply shows that all they truly care about is the bottom line and not their people. If you are talented, get out as fast as you can and find a growing company that rewards and recognizes talent. Don't go down with the ship.
