Layoffs are about cost. The rational choice would be to incentivize hiring of cheaper labor while getting rid of more expensive labor. Quality isn’t much a factor as it’s pretty clear that WF loves c-appy/ low quality work. However I am aware that Wells Fargo and rationality usually do not go together in the same sentence. As such, I would not be surprised if the outcome includes some illegal criteria such as immigration status or nationality as @vqp suggests. Document everything, lawyer up and do not sign anything until you’ve spoken to your counsel. Do just like the Karens would do once they turn 40.
All anyone can do is hope that the H1Bs are laid off before anyone else.
