I doubt working from home is going to be over anytime soon. COVID cases are skyrocketing, there is no vaccine and the dust needs to settle on layoffs and restructuring first.
If Wells Fargo gets thousands of its employees sick during a pandemic, that drives up health care expenses. And those employees have lots of family members covered by the bank who could also get very sick.
WF is self insured, meaning your hospital bill is paid by the bank directly and hits the employee expenses line in the p&l. Insurance like BCBS or Kaiser is just an administrator, they don’t pay the bill. Ballooning and unpredictable hospital bills will EASILY cost more than minor attrition would save.
If some dummy in an individual business unit is trying to end working from home, they better check themselves before they wreck themselves, of course that kind of stupidity is exactly what should be expected at this company.
