Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

Jumping Ship

I know by no means that is scientific. But just want to get an idea of people who were actually trying to get out because of the commission change.

Who is looking for a way out? And why?

Bro if your American you’re forced out. It’s the globalism agenda. Not race but globalization. What that means to us , as we’ve seen , is if your born in America your treated horribly and ran off or delayed off after enduring unspeakable treatment.

Have you ever tried to leave retail for other VZW jobs? I know multiple people who have applied for 15 or more jobs and never once been interviewed, despite having pursued degrees, despite having their resume professionally reviewed. It comes down to who you know in VZW, it is not common for retail to make it to corporate because the system is geared towards cronyism and outside hires. It isn't because we haven't tried.

You guys do know that Verizon has other jobs than retail, right? If you’re a high performer, and want to keep making money, you’ll need to move on from retail. You do not, however, have to move on from Verizon.

DO NOT jump ship unless you have new employment lined up. I VSP'd from VZW year and a half ago. Had a lot of co-workers take that package too. Almost none of my co-workers or myself have found a new job yet. Many have lowered their pay expectations and still can not find employment. You would think having VZW on your resume would help, but no. Now many of them are struggling with the new HR excuse not to hire you (next to age) which is the "employment gap". Its getting to the point if your looking for work you might as well just buy lotto tickets. Your odds are better!

I watched Circuit City do the same thing for the same reasons. Verizon will regret alienating their sales force, this will end in lost revenue.

COVID cases are higher in 40 of the 50 states and they are bringing work from home reps off of busy phone lines and back into stores just as McDonalds and Apple are closing stores. They are also taking away the hazard pay. Why? You gave them each $1400 laptops and kept them safe as they provided value to the company?

Who wouldn't jump ship at this point? Leadership has no idea what they are doing.

I usually do not respond to people that call anonymous responders names, here are some reasons why they should! 2 to 3 years ago when they offered verizon wireless employees severence most were in "good standing " and their job description was eliminated! They were "at will"thus for years of "performing service they were offered severence. Currently, the company has changed the job description and compensation of the front line, thus they don't want to keep employees with 15+ years of service, in the long run the company will save, this combined with the recommended going to part-time this is company initiative were the employees have no choice in the matter! In regard to their job.Its a win win for the company and employees who would want to take it. . Just by changing full time status to part time they are changing the employees job description. So with all this change severence should be offered, some will take it some won't. So to the person below ,remember, you used to say everyday "change energizes us" when you changed commission payouts ever few months!

I'm down about 30-40k. I know I was getting paid a crazy amount for the job. I sold a lot, had happy customers. I did it the correct way. No pushing and slamming no lies. But the writing was on the wall. So I'm actively looking. Yes Verizon is using this virus for a way to make this happen fast. I'm also sick of how this company has became so polical and think they are socially responsible.

Honestly yes we did take a big pay cut, if you think about it we will be making $60k a year wich is equivalent to $30/hr, now think about it what other company right now will pay you $30/hr with no college degree ? Don’t know why there are so many cry babies out there . Look around you there are huge companies laying employees left and right, no companies are hiring right now , and here we are complaining of a pay cut smh .

If I was looking at things from the outside looking in ( which I’m not ) most reps if not all will make at least 50k a year under the new pay structure. Average salaries are now coming in at 45k + team commission. At least half of the current reps already averaged this kind of money being a low level bottom of the barrel employee. Overall for the type of job it is to make like $23 an hour is not a bad gig. Personally I’m losing thousands but then again I’m in the minority of the kind of money that I made. I will eventually leave because I’m too valuable to work at a dead end job clerking all day with zero incentive.

I jumped ship because I knew this was going to happen. I got tired of waiting for Verizon to dictate my future and my income. Retail has no future, not one worth sticking around for anyways.

The changes most likely were by design given the current world situation. The higher ups probably realized this was the ideal time to make the change they wanted. The job market is volatile and even those that want to leave will be forced to stay which can create moral problems since they want to leave but cannot.

Offer severence 3 weeks for every year worked and 1 year of benefits for the transition, employees with 15+ years would jump!

I’m riding out the year and hoping the covid stuff dies down before I leave. My avg commission was $2400 so the pay cut is significant enough for me to go elsewhere. (Which I’m sure is by design) but I won’t leave in a volatile job market surrounding covid.

I will be aggressively looking to find a new job where I have the potential to make more money. Unfortunately Verizon took that opportunity away by going with the team structure. No hard feelings though it is what it is. Like someone said in another post it will be challenging to work with the same expectations making a lot less money. My commission checks average 2.5k a month so I figure I will be losing close to 15-20k a year. How anybody can be ok with that is beyond me.

I am looking to leave because the pay cut will be about $10k a year for me. Also it just won’t be the same in retail anymore. This is just the start. How can I get excited about a $1k commission check that is team based? I just can’t get behind it.
