Thread regarding Follett layoffs

What is your store doing to protect you ?

We have no plexi at the registers whereas the whole entire campus has plexi up. We have no Lysol spray. We have no signs up saying masks required ( yes the campus does, but not us ). This is OSHA correct ???

5nrb+15Goj2Zu: They know the information and supplies are readily available. They are just whining because they have to go back to work. Fed govt gravy train is over. I know I enjoyed being off work on a two mth paid vacation. I also like being back at work, even though a–hole customers won't wear masks.

Plexi really isn’t effective unless you have customers sneezing in your face, masks being worn by staff and customers is and there’s printable signage on the quad for mask requirements and more. If you were still with the company you’d know that supplies can be replenished through custompoint as it’s been overly covered for two months by RMs, emails, quad posts, Follett Central posts and on marketplace.

Translating previous post- If someone else cared about you (government/school) follett complied with their wishes. follett provided a starter kit without input or direction on what to do with it. Also missing were any instructions on how to replenish supplies.
Heart warming. Makes you proud to be abused at the hands of such a feeble company. Glad I'm long gone.

HO has negotiated for cleaning supplies, hand sanitizer, PPE and where gov mandated or campus requested plexiglass to ship out of a central location. Shipments of everything besides the plexi went out to all stores and it’s up to stores to reorder as needed since inventory can’t be tracked.
If you don’t have supplies question your SM or report to the RM because they’re falsifying the weekly covid certification.

Don't look for strategic planning at HO. It's every man for himself as the ship sinks.
Don't have what you need on the store level, don't expect us to do anything about it, blame the store manager, she's not doing her job!

Follett home office should be sending supplies and signage to each store. They should also be mandating the manual efforts that need to be completed to protect store employees and customers. My wife works at a major retailer and that is all managed at the home office and provided to the stores. Lower prices can be negotiated for supplies from HO for all stores versus each store doing their own thing.

Signs are in retails ops on quad. Go buy spray with p-card. What good will plexi glass do for clothing and baskets of books? This is Costco, we don't have conveyer belts.

Real leadership would make sure the tasks are done and follow up and help if stores can't or aren't getting what they need.

Yes! Plexiglass. Mom and Pops shops have managed to get up plexiglass shield in their stores.
But Follett can't make that happen????
Nice to know how Ivory Tower values each and every associate.

We should ALL have plexiglass, PERIOD. You do need to be careful how you word the mask issue. You follow what your college rule is. Is it "required" or "suggested"? I am putting required on my signs. My life my teams life is worth more than a minor inconvenience All of us have some pre-existing condition that makes us susceptible. Most students are cool with it. If I get a someone who refuses I will direct them to the website or I will shop for them.

HO, validate that you've certified that all your stores have the PPE equipment you mandated them to have.
If they don't you are responsible that your managers failed.
You can fire your managers (after you burned them out working extra hours covering multiple furloughed associates hours at reduced wages during the height of the pandemic) but in the end, Follett will get sued.
Now quit YOUR whinny excuses and get out and inspect YOUR stores.
Remember, you NEVER fail!

2pke+15Goj2Zu: gtfoh. If you don't have the PPE you need it's because you didn't order it. It's no wonder half of Follett's stores are failing. Look at all the id–t responses about HO not doing enough for the stores. You can order masks. Cleaning supplies and hand sanitizer from custompoint. Your SM can take their happy little Pcard and buy what you need
but nooooo... it's HO fault. Right? They gave you the tools to succeed and you are dropping the ball .. oh (whine) it's HO's fault we got Covid.

So Follett HO will micromanage the f@#$ out of your selection of GM and books, but can't take the lead and responsibility of getting the stores all the PPE they need?

So when someone gets the Covid at a Follett store and dies see if her family sues the store manager or Follett corporation. Follett is responsible for all their stores. With all your EVP's and SVP's, and VP's and RM's if there is any store not meeting the standards and protecting employees and customers lives it's FOLLETT'S responsibility. Corporate ALWAYS passing the buck. The spineless wonders.

Stop making excuses for your lack of preparedness. You are trying to make Follett the scapegoat for your own ineptitude. This is not the best company to work for... I get it. You hate this company and they can't do anything right. Stop blaming them for your stores ineptitude in preparing to open. I was on custompoint this morning and there are masks, germicide and hand sanitizer that can be ordered. Follett is not telling anybody not to spend money. If somebody told you that, they are lying. We were informed by our RM to purchase the supplies needed to open safely. Every bit of communication to the managers is telling them Safety is #1.

I am neither at a small store nor a large store. I admittedly do not get nasty grams for going over budget. If I did my response would be detailing what was bought and why. They are welcome to fire me for trying to provide a safe workspace per the guidance that they have provided (after having OSHA called on them). If you are a SM receiving those nasty grams...report them? The truth of the matter is that it is more expensive to operate safely with COVID so....S—s for the budget.

For those who responded blaming the store managers you must be a big store and have the budget for all thid. Smaller stores don't and get thrown under the bus for overspending. Nasty-grams come on a daily basis. IT IS FOLLETTS RESPONSIBILITY TO MAKE THEIR STORES SAFE.

Non-management employee is concerned about their safety and asked a legitimate question...and most people are responding rudely. Awesome job.

Understand that if their store manager is not passing on the info, then non-management employees are probably completely in the dark to if the home office is even providing information for store managers to follow.

Does it s— to have to do more on less as a store manager? Absolutely. But I prioritize and do my best and if I can’t finish it all, then that is just the reality of my world right now. I’ll finish it when I finish it. My safety, the safety of my employees, and the safety of my customers gets our first over all the other things that Follett may want me to do. Just how it is right now.

To non-management employees:
If you do not feel like talking to your SM will accomplish anything other than potential retaliation via cutting hours, then report the site to OSHA.

While poorly delivered, many points out valid. The SM was responsible for these preparations. As an SM, I have done what I can with the information I have been given. My employees have masks, I have made sure they have thermometers, gloves are available, hand sanitizer is available, and while I cannot find Lysol? I am stocked with bleach solution for cleaning. We do also have a weekly sign off that we are required to complete in estore portal certifying that we are doing are part to keep the store safe.

Store managers have been given the information for cleaning supplies. BUT no plexiglass unless your campus requires it. Think about that. Most of our counters are 30" deep. If you are standing at a register and your customer is on the other side of the counter, you are at best 4 feet away from each other. If you are good at your job, you know that this is a very interactive retail experience, many questions are asked and need answers. Do I feel safe with no plexi? NOT FOR 1 MINUTE!!! This cheapskate company declared that since some stores remained open in April and May so it must be safe without. How about be proactive? How about giving your team a little peace of mind. We dont know if the plexi will really help, but we know it cant hurt. Why not err on the side of caution and value your workers. We all deal with people from all over the country. Sure lets roll the dice and hope none of them were exposed on their way to campus. They need to open up the purse strings and help the people who are actually on the front lines.

Yes, let your SM know how you feel. You're SM that had to keep working and doing everyone's job whilst getting a 10% pay cut while their furloughed associates were getting an extra $600.00 a week to stay home and be safe.
Follett is REALLY good at unfunded mandates right. Where were the added resources to get all these things done? God Bless the Ivory Tower!

So you want me to b@&$h at my manager and watch the 12 hours I work a week go down to 0 .... Sure I’ll do that
RM should be checking with stores on the 100 conference calls they have to ask the questions to the SM if the store is set for COVID. I listen to these calls. Questions are not being asked. It’s all about money money money
We have to sign off that we are not sick
They should have to sign off that we are COVID ready. I’m just a part timer at my store. I’m not sure about the original poster but my voice carries very little around here

1exr+15Goj2Zu: If your store is not ready, b–ch at your manager. Your manager was supposed to order the supplies. Your manager was supposed to print those signs and put them out. Your manager is supposed to make sure you have face masks. Follett gives you the tools, it's your managers job to make sure you use them.

Follett gave us the tools to ready our stores for opening... it is the responsibility of the store manager to carry out those directives. How are you going to blame the folks at home office for your store not being prepared? Does that make any sense to anybody? If you have a Pcard, your store should not be lacking in supplies.

Follett isn't responsible for Follett's stores?

WOW, that is a mental disconnect!

Shouldn't the RM's go and inspect each and every store they're responsible for to make sure they are in compliance? They do that with every other bs requirement the Ivory Tower comes up with.

On this, the SM is responsible? It's not Follett's fault.

What a bunch of losers!

Every store layout is different but the way our registers our set up you would have to almost build a room of plexiglass.
From everything I am reading the most important thing is for everyone to wear mask, wash your hands often, and keep social distant.
The manager is responsible for getting the store ready, ordering supplies, and providing instruction to the staff.

Hell ya I’m ENTITLED!! Entitled to feel safe in a store I’m working at ! I work FOR FOLLETT so it IS their job not mine. No , I’m not the manager of the store I work at and I did print out those sad little signs , whew I feel so much safer now!!!!!

All I hear from my store manager is we can’t spend money on this and that !

Stop drinking the Kool-Aid bro !

Entitled much? Are you a manager in your store? It is YOUR job to get your store ready for opening. Print the signs on the COVID 19 quad page, buy the supplies per the list that was sent out to ALL store managers. If your store is not ready it's because YOU or your store manager didn't get it ready. Stop blaming Follett when YOU are probably the one to blame.

We have social distance signs up at the entrance of our store, two hand sanitizer stations at our front door and text area, stantions with 6 ft social distancing signs, register ready with signage and hand sanitizer, lysol and wipes to clean after every customer. Masks galore! We have the ones Follett sent but we also marked out some of the fancier masks we received from Jardine and Boxercraft to push the product.

Follett has nothing to do with your store not being prepared. Check yourself before you blame someone else for something YOU are not doing.

OSHA has only issued guidance, not regulations. https://www.osha.gov/SLTC/covid-19/retail.html

This means that organizations should do these things, but don’t have to. If the employer does not follow guidance and an employee is harmed, then the employee has more leverage when filing a civil lawsuit.

OSHA has been pretty toothless under the Trump administration.

Some states have enacted requirements that businesses need to follow OSHA or CDC guidelines, but it is state by state. Some states, such as mine, have their own agencies that take over OSHA responsibilities, and when they do, they tend to enforce them more strictly.

So, maybe.

Check with your campus admin to see if they are going to require you to follow campus policies, that might get Follett to act responsibly. Check with your county Dept of Health to see what the regulations are in your county.
