Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Hiring?

Has anyone reading this board gotten hired or known anyone who’s gotten hired within the last 3 months? I’ve been trying to post out and keep getting declined. Trying to figure out if this is because they are hiring mostly external now because of an OCC mandate, or if it’s just me.

Hiring in tech would make sense since we should be moving to more remote work and online banking, and we're very very far behind in the tech we use.

But that would apply to every other company, too.

And I wouldn't put Wells at the top of my tech company wish list.

I see a lot of posts about lifers at Wells being deadwood, and while I don't see "deadwood" in our IT management, I do see a lot of lifers with no experience outside Wells.

Meaning we have a lot of hard working well intentioned managers who have no idea how tech is done outside of Wells.

I've posted this before, it's 2020 and here at Wells I'm doing things that we automated or eliminated back in the 90's.

Excel Spreadsheets as far as the eye can see and inconsistent processes everywhere.

Yeah, I'm moving on soon. I'll post my job hunting experiences here sometime.

To the person who said “there is no OCC mandate to hire external” that is a false statement. There absolutely is an active MRA which requires 60% external hires. Call HR and Compliance today and ask if you are in doubt. I have confirmed this fact.

My wife was laid off in March and got an offer last week. I’ve been looking for 2 months (still employed) and landed a job this week. Both of us will be making significantly more money. They job are out there for higher level roles. (6 figure jobs). Guessing not great at the lower level jobs.

You could be getting declined for the following

  1. Posting for a role more than one level up
  2. Being the 41st poster to the role
  3. Being in a city not approved for the requisition
  4. Being less qualified
  5. Hiring manager knows who they are going to hire and interviews only enough other candidates to comply with policy
  6. ATS can’t read your resume
  7. Recruiter can’t match what’s on your resume to the qualifications list, they will spend possibly 5 seconds trying to do it
  8. Requisition pulled

There is no OCC mandate to hire external. Keep trying to internally post out if you want a career change. Also, be honest with yourself if you are in fact competitive for the roles you are posting to or rather if you should aim a little bit lower (maybe an analyst 2 role instead of an analyst 3 and work hard to get promoted)

External - applied - received an offer - could not agree on $$ - too low for me – since then no attempts made after reading these posts — maybe a good idea I did not accept? Who knows everyone's experience varies by Company, Team, and Manager - has been my experience....

When I was looking late last year I received many declines or no changes in statuses (as did many co-workers). We found that many jobs posted were then pulled back/no longer approved or there were many candidates so they looked at applicants with more scrutiny. Good luck. Be patient!!
