Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

“Diversity” and “inclusion”

With all the talk of diversity and inclusion coming from Wells Fargo, do those of us who aren’t “diverse” even stand a chance for a promotion?

So is this really a sincere question? Assuming the original poster is just a bit tone-deaf and not a troll, then the answer is "Yes, of course you still have a chance for a promotion. Deliver what your boss wants. Give them outstanding performance, incredible cost-savings, solutions to their daily problems."

Is the OP really asking what will happen to us poor old white dudes?

SMH.

We'll be fine. America has been pushing to be more inclusive for decades and the more people of color or the he/she/they variety that get an opportunity the more the country prospers.

And FFS the job market is more than just Wells Fargo.

What an ignorant question.

I won't address the subject of upper management, but at my level both my manager and my two-up are both females. My immediate team – which to me is super diverse – is comprised of g– and straight males and females from all over the globe, with different belief systems.

The managers in my group are all white males, except for one white female. All but one are straight. There are a few Asian ICs, no Latinos or African Americans at all. This is in supposedly progressive San Francisco.

Look at who is making the real money. And feel sorry for the poor, downtrodden white male.

Nah .. that is just bogus corporate talk. I am black and g–. Stuck forever here .

I think the organization is just plain screwed up. I have never taken advantage of my minority status but then again, neither did the organization give me any special privileges . It is the same lot who are at the top. Or the same kind of people . See who is at the top and you get my point.

Diversity doesn't guarantee you a raise or a promotion or anything, believe me.

When you’re accustomed to privilege, a level playing field feels unfair.

Don't worry, those of us who ARE diverse (Women, GLBT, over 40 etc) are NOT seeing any of this garbage they brag about, trust me, you have nothing to worry about. The only TRUE diversity at Wells Fargo is the mandate to replace all AMERICAN jobs with jobs in India or the Phillipines.

Good luck, especially if you are a telecommuter/remote. Is not going to happen as they are focusing on hiring people in the core locations. I know telecommuter's who tried posting out and they were not even considered for the roles due to their telecommuter status.

Also, if the role is higher paying, don't think for a second that the hiring managers are not using that to hook up their pals.

JPM is old company too like WF, from BC times; not sure why they don't look for a current company to learn from. China district is about 1000 years ahead of all these banks which is scary.

I think the issue is there are not any forward looking people available in leadership roles and they hire more workers from old style banks which just gives them more of the same results and more of the same old ways of doing things.

A promotion to the next level in your current area or job code is going to be difficult to get for quite some time given anticipated staff reductions. Whether or not your manager is both willing and capable of helping you get a promotion is highly variable.

The best way to get the job up a level is to post out, but you have to be fast, they close requisitions after 40 applicants. Getting a big time promotion that takes you up more than one level requires a lot of politics, so brown nosing will need to be your specialty.

D&I is obviously a bunch of baloney when you look at what the CEO is doing versus saying, so take that however you like.

Nope y’all don’t. Y’all had a 400 year head start to advance so if you’re still competing with diverse candidates for jobs then maybe you shouldn’t be promoted. Ask stupid questions get stupid responses

The only way to get promoted, hired or retained is if you’re one or all of the following: “diverse”, external candidate (most preferably from JPM).

For everyone else, you may as well start looking outside the company at companies who are truly equal opportunity employers. Wells Fargo makes disclaimers that it’s an equal opportunity employer, but this statement is just another example of lip service and done for good PR, because what is said compared to what is actually done, are two different things.
