Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Transformative Lay-off Andy Outsourcing

AT&T just announced that there is going to be some major transformative, streamlining, right sizing, operational efficiency and outsourcing for the Board, CEO, C-Suite, and Upper Management.

AT&T will be outsourcing, rebadging and surplussing these non critical, non essential, micromanaging, high paying, non producing, liability, Poor decision making, company resource draining positions. Covid-19 has taught that these positions can be done much cheaper from overseas and at other companies. They weren’t missed at all during lock down, shelter in place rules. This will greatly and positively impact the bottom line, stock price, dividend and the essential front-line employees and their support.

Thanks, upper management for all you do! You are valued ASSets for the Company! Keep up the good work!

  1. S.

You’ll get an email with details soon! You’re severance depends on the company you may or may not end up with.

@1pjv - just stating facts, no reason to take it personally. Asking you to do a task is not micromanaging, its part of an overall business strategy that either you are not exposed to, or don't take the time to really think about. You should be given time to do it, but are not always and i get that. You may in your job role be paid to do task work, not brainstorm how to make a profit on the business. In the past it has been found to move the business things have to be done differently, which most people are resistant to. When gaps are found in what you do policies are made to correct those gaps. Are they perfect? No. Are they effective? if the gap closes they are. You generally don't see the bigger picture in some of these things because you aren't shown that , don't care anymore, or resist all change except that which makes your job easier. The focus is on the customer, and your job has to change to adapt. If you have a manager that hounds you and you are a good employee that really solves problems and helps customers, then I do feel for you, and hopefully that will change. Not all managers micromanage, most don't have the time. Are all the metrics good? of course not , some are very short sighted, but some do have value. Are some business units worse than others? absolutely. I would bet your job is not as bad as you make it out to be. I also don't agree with the companies direction on some things, especially at much higher levels, so just play the game. Younger people are lining up to work here don't kid yourself friend. They are also more flexible than some older employees who pine for the old days that are dead and gone. You will make it another 9 years if you stop wishing for things you want to happen, control whats in your wheelhouse, and keep investing in yourself. It is not easy to give a customer the same experience across the country without making policies that everyone needs to follow, but that's the goal. Thats the reason for regulations and policy.

And to the other poster who wonders how we managed to be here for 100 years "without regulation"... its was directly a result of regulation, you may want to read up on that. We made sweetheart deals with the federal government and were a regulated monopoly, that's the reason so many good ideas came out of Bell Labs. The money went back into the business, and universal service was the name of the game. That's dead and gone, except when they want to use it in advertising.

The real issue with the company today in my opinion is the continued push that the investor returns rule above all over the customers and employees, which can k–l new ideas and make risk taking by middle managers almost nonexistent. This leads to shedding the most valuable resource which is an engaged workforce, and dragging it out. it leads to infighting and burnout.

Wish you all good luck in any regard.

Regulators, policy makers always try to justify added work it’s in their best interest. Wonder how the company survived for 100+ years before they showed up?

Keep believing those micromanaging ideas, comrade and you can bring all your paper awards suitable for framing when you are the last one to turn the lights out.

Younger people won’t put up with this oppressive, micromanaging. I see younger techs and managers leaving every month as soon as they can find another career or job. All of us senior techs and managers are encouraging them too because we know how insane this place has become. The rest of us are just gritting it out, less than 9 years for me and sooner with the right package.

@1iam - back to the basics - unfortunately your refusal to do the "basics" is why you got the tasks and policies in the first place, but you keep doing you though.

Give me 9 years seniority and some severance and I’d be gone in a blink. This is purgatory, can’t wait to leave Titanic. Waiting on my rescue ship.

A lot of fat to be cut, staff, top gun, directors, assistant VP, executive VP and layers of managers that are constantly trying to justify their jobs and coming up with nonessential policies and tasks. We need to get back to the basics and about 4-5 levels between CEO and level 0 without all the bloated staff and assistants. Give them some time and severance then, sayonara!

They need to come up with another word for fired or layoff because all these euphemisms are old and tired.

Executives and upper management has assistants for their assistants while frontline techs are being overwhelmed with added tasks and policies. Techs are bulk loaded most days with more work than can be done in a day without any of the added tasks and policies. There are a multitude of tasks that I won’t take time to enumerate here, it would take too long. There’s so much busy work/tasks to do that tech’s can’t focus on their main scope of work and take care of the customer. There is always threats and discipline for every missed green check/task. I digress, the dashboard and bonuses are the most important, forgive me.

We (long term employees) tell any of the new hires to find another company as soon as possible and don’t get stuck here. It was great for us and our families for many years but An Okie and Cali transplant ruined it for everyone.

Nobody can be trusted so they need layer upon layer to watch each other, sounds like a system that was in place in East Germany after WWII. Mr. Stinky, tear down that wall!!!

Haha! Good satire. Never happen but common sense and numbers would prove that cutting the largest salaries and packages would be optimal. Most of those layers need to be greatly reduced. The company survived for over 100 years without all the layers of management.

They are creating work to justify their jobs via meetings, power point presentations, emails, dashboard metrics, spreadsheets, conferences, constantly updating or changing software, town hall, micromanaging, unneeded task for techs, etc.... sometimes the Customer’s needs get discussed, after the browbeating and bonus numbers are met.

Most is totally unneeded and a waste of time.

PERIOD!
